Purpose of Religion

What do you feel you’ve gained out of following an organized religion? (any religion, doesn’t matter  )

If you believe in God, but dont follow an organized religion - the same question is directed to you as well.

Re: Purpose of Religion

Question is too complicated and too Philosophical ...

hmmm... My religion tells me that I will be told about it in hereafter - that is, if I gained the ultimate purpose of following it or not.

May Allah make all of us victorious on that day. Aameen

Re: Purpose of Religion

u can't believe in God and not follow a religion....
once u believe in the authority of God, the religion tells u what exactly God wants u to do....

Re: Purpose of Religion

You're already offtopic armughal. No wonder you always get a lot of opposition from guppies

Re: Purpose of Religion

^
read ur second statement PCG, u cant put off a stupid statement and not expect someone to comment on it....

Re: Purpose of Religion

look, i never made any comments on that approach. rather, I want to keep the topic open for anyone who believes in God.

Get it? Good.

Re: Purpose of Religion

^
no i dont get it....
tell me how u can believe in God and not follow a religion....

and in the process also enlighten me (and others) of what the term religion actually means....

Re: Purpose of Religion

you are free to open another thread on this. you should be mature enough to at least respect the topic and stick to it.

Re: Purpose of Religion

armughal bhai: may be what PCG meant was a similar example of people who are called Ool-ul-Albaab (who will always come into the fold of Islam once know about it) in Quran, like Luqman:as:

and as one more example in the history is Aristotle.

Re: Purpose of Religion

r u somehow trying to imply that Luqman (as) was not following a religoin????

Re: Purpose of Religion

bhai jaan: there was a parenthesis included for the very same fear I was having by putting that message up

you may wanna listen to the tafseer portion of ayah 190-195 of Aal-e-Imran HERE](http://www.tanzeem.org/ramadhan/2001ram/016.ram)

Re: Purpose of Religion

not one goddamn relevant reply.

Re: Purpose of Religion

PCG, you can believe in god without believing in ringin a ghanti in a mandir or facing mecca while praying, or taking communion.

I think I am that kind of a person PCG. But instead of shunning these practices, I kind of go along with it and absorb what I think is right from each organized religion. In the end, it is between me and god. everyomen else can go fk themselves. :flower1:

Re: Purpose of Religion

so what do u believe about God????
what attributes do u give for your god????
how do u define him (or her whatever u have chosen as god)????

Re: Purpose of Religion

You have posed a great question (broad as it may be) because it highlights the difference between a spritual view and scriptual view of life. I think if one answers it as a follower of an organized religion (especially one that demands conformity and a heavy reliance on ancient scripture) you will get a whole different set of answers than from someone who doesn't feel as bound by restrictions.

My guess is the former would answer with a more dogmatic approach than the latter.

My answer? How God wants us to live our life and treat each other. Sorry, a broad answer to a broad question. How else can we be judged other than how we treat God's people and creations?

Re: Purpose of Religion

God is and isn't. Let's start there.

Personally, a feeling of family in practicing with others of the same faith. Also important to me, a definite path to God. Sometimes the right way is not initially the way you wish to go, but an organized religion with set parameters can help you face what you need to do, kind of like giving you no choice. Sometimes that is a good thing.

Re: Purpose of Religion

I believe in God (Allah for the weak hearted), but I could give two siths for the Ummah and the organized religion be it judaism, shiites, ahamdis, oh and muslims them too.
God/Allah is a personal matter, religion basically just tells you to follow the crowd, same as cult no different.

It amazes me to see the sheer ignorance in this forum trying to put other opinions down, and bit1ching like roting parrots the same thing over and over again. My god better than your god, anything not in quran burn in hell, my god , your god, my god did this your god did that............... Like little imbicile aholes that need to get their tushies whipped by me.
Wahabi this and kafir that. God would give a fk less about petty BS. He's got Israel-Palestinian Issue that he has been trying to resolve ever since he put man on this wretched earth.

Very good thread, I have to run to a meeting I will continure with the thought process.

Re: Purpose of Religion

I attest to that. Some people cannot hear themselves.

Re: Purpose of Religion

Sorry Just wanted to add, purpose of religion as the name of the thread implies; is to control the thought process of humans. Death is one thing that humans historically had issues with so in came religion, with life after death, all most all religions promise something after life (in hinduism you get recycled), Islam just gets carried away with 72 virginia slims and a golf cart deal.
