bhatoora’s dough is yeast fermented, which gives it the chracteristic taste. otherwise it would just be big poori. never seen it stuffed, but what afayiz describes sounds like a few other things - kachoray, puran poli etc.

Not at all they are pathoraas and watch any Pakistani cooking show. They are stuffed with daal maash. Abroad livers usually mix with many cultures and thats why confuse. All Indian food is not like ours. Even a man selling pathora on his cart would have this daal mash stuffed recipe otherwise we say yeh to phir poori huwee. no where i found that pathoras have yeast, one of my cousins put yeast in it but yeast has a specific taste which makes it different. I stick to my saying Pathoras are always stuffed with daal mash, in last 15 yrs i lived in Pakistan i ate from the popular ones to the low profile ones and corner shops of the anarkali, ichraa and everyone has same recipe. This recipe is same in Karachi, Islamabad too.
