So this weekend i’m going to try and make puris using tortillas (SO COOL, thank u GS).. and i wanted an awesome recipe for chanay or cholay or whatever u call it .. to go with it. Something easy and delicious!
If any of u have some awesome recipes, please post here! Pics would be helpful as well
I've tried her recipe and love it! We have it for dinner every other week lol. Whenever i make mine however, it comes out a bit on the dry side, not in a bad way... but cos u mash up the chanay a bit at the end.. idk how to explain... as in the masala wasn't separated too much.. with puri i like the chana masala to be kinda oily, sounds weird but i hope u understand.
Idk if any of u have been to Devon Ave in Chicago... But there are a few restaurants that serve halwa puri breakfasts.. most popular being Tahoora... i like that type consistency of their chana masala.
15 Min breakfast potatoes/Aaloo ki tarkari to go with puris/paratha or just by itself with spoon.
In 2 tbsp oil, fry some cumin
add 2 med size potatoes cut in small tarkari style (1/2 inches pieces). stir for a min
add salt, turmeric and red chili powder. stir for a min
add julienne cut tomato and stir for a min
add following ingredients and stiff for a min on med-high flame
1/4 tsp black mustered seeds (rai)
1/2 tsp of nigella seeds (kalonji)
2 tbsp of pomegranate seeds (anar dana)
1 tsp coriander seeds (sabut dhanya)
cover and cook on high for a min so tomatoes can get soft
add half cup of water couple of whole thai chili , cover and cook till potatoes are tender.
Once potatoes are tender, mash some of the potatoes (I mash around 1/8th of potatoes) to give nice gravy. Add or dry water to bring it to your desired consistency. Cover an cook for a min
