Pure Chiffon

How can you tell if the chiffon is pure or not? I received a suit from a vendor and she had used crinkle chiffon. My cousin sent me a suit and she used chiffon but it wasnt crinkled and had a rough feel to it…

And what exactly is grip chiffon?

Re: Pure Chiffon

There's several different types of pure chiffon. They vary according to weight, thickness and texture and you can get pure crinkle chiffon as well as non-crinkled.

It's sometimes hard to tell the difference between natural and man-made fibers, especially in chiffon. The only completely fool-proof way is to do a simple burn test. Take a small corner of fabric from the seam allowance and burn the loose threads.

If the fabric is pure, the flame will take longer to ignite and it will leave behind ash and will smell like burnt hair.
If the fabric is synthetic, it will burn out quickly and there will be no ash or smell. Synthetic material melts rather than burns and the smoke will be black with a sweetish smell.

It's probably best to hold the fabric with tweezers and not your fingers while doing this.

Re: Pure Chiffon

(Of course another great indicator is the price! Pure chiffon will ALWAYS be much more expensive.)

Re: Pure Chiffon

I was going to suggest the burn test too.

Re: Pure Chiffon

Thanks for the tip! I think I'll give it a try when I get home ... And I'll report back my findings!

Re: Pure Chiffon

Yes, and to test the Purity of Jamavar / banarsi or silk cloth use the same test /procedure .
Or

Try to take some threads from the corner and break it, if pure will break easily. but burn test is the most authentic /acurate one.

Re: Pure Chiffon

so when someone says that it is "chinese chiffon" and it's "pure" ---- what does that denote?

Re: Pure Chiffon

^both are terms used for same fabric

Re: Pure Chiffon

is said fabric synthetic or natural?

Re: Pure Chiffon

natural or "pure" in general terms

Re: Pure Chiffon

okay....so "pure chinese chiffon" is not made of any sythetic materials like rayon
rather it is made from all natural fibres like silk

do I have it right now?

Re: Pure Chiffon

I am not sure about details on fibres, just know that pure Chinese chiffon is not synthetic/Polyester

Re: Pure Chiffon

okay…got it.
I’m just curious because I did some searching on chinese vendors and found that the vast majority use the term “pure” but that doesn’t mean that it is silk.

check it out:

China Pure Chiffon, China Pure Chiffon Manufacturers, China Pure Chiffon Suppliers and Companies on Alibaba.com100% Silk Fabric

and yes…main baal ki khaal udhere rahi hoon because I think that this is where many a buyer mistakenly accepts terminology that isn’t valid.

Re: Pure Chiffon

lol I know but yes, we should know about it

I am not sure about '100% polyester pure crinkle chiffon' though

Re: Pure Chiffon

Whats this INDIAN CHIFFON ??? I was going to buy a formal dress online through a vendor and when i ask is that pure chiffon, she said its INDIAN CHIFFON. so wat does it mean by INDIAN CHIFFON ??? is that any other kind of chiffon ??

Re: Pure Chiffon

Indian chiffon is very cheap. Sold locally @ 100 rs per yard, its alright if you want to wear it in casual wear but not for embroidery purpose! Not very good quality though.

Re: Pure Chiffon

Thank you so much Smarffy. You SAVED me :)

Re: Pure Chiffon

No problem hon :)

Re: Pure Chiffon

Burn test seems a good idea :) i have an eye which detects whats pure and whats not by looking at the overall look and feel of the dress... will try burn test too :)

Re: Pure Chiffon

This is actually a very illogical term used in pakistan. Chiffon is just a type of weave, and it can be made with different materials and different types of thread. What makes it "pure"? It's like saying something is pure velvet. Velvet can be made of cotton, polyester, silk, etc, so this term makes no sense.

I doubt that the "pure chiffon" term that gets thrown around is a natural fiber like silk - silk chiffon is very expensive and I have some items in this material and it has different feel. It is not cotton chiffon, it would also have a different feel to it - a little more dull. because if you ask the people selling it "is it silk" they say no it's pure chiffon. SO what is this "pure" chiffon? isn't it pure polyester or nylon or some other man made material? what other natural fibers are there - silk, cotton, linen, hemp, wool. It's not any of these.

What I think is "pure chiffon" is a term made up by the pakistani clothing salespeople referring to a type of chiffon popular in pakistan which is very light and gauzy, has a little shine, and has that crinkle. The material is lovely, no doubt, but i'll bet you it is not a natural fiber or it would be touted as silk chiffon or something to make it more marketable and raise the price. Even in all these posts nobody tells you what it is actually made of. If it had a label like things in the UK or US do, it would not say 100% chiffon on the tag, it would say what the material is actually made of: silk, rayon, nylon, etc.
