Just imagine: A classical case of rat race behaviour by Iftikhar ‘The RAT’, taking first opportunity to climb ladder at whatever cost. We all know that this Judge (Iftikhar) was stooge of Nawaz Shareef before Musharaf took over, as Daily Times writes, still once Nawaz was out, this RAT did everything to ditch his old political master (Ganja Nawaz) and get close to new man in power (President Musharraf), so that he can progress in his career, as for him, morality or loyalty means nothing. Well, that is what he did with President Musharraf, as he used President to climb the ladder and then when he found that he is going to get punished for wrongdoings, he did all to bite the hand (President’s hand) who fed him to the highest office in Judiciary.

Proof that he was stooge of Nawaz while a judge in Balochistan, and used to take orders of Nawaz:

Individualland.com, a leading website in the country, earlier held a discussion as to why Balochistan decided to remain calm and neutral over the ongoing crisis. The website quoted former Balochistan Bar Association president Wasey Tareen as saying, “I appreciate the president’s move (of filing a reference) against Justice Chaudhry. This step should have been taken much earlier. He used to act autocratically when he was the chief justice of the Balochistan High Court. He overtly formulated and backed a lobby of privileged lawyers against former Baloch Chief Justice Amir-ul-Mulk Mengal. He was not free in making decisions. He used to take dictations from politicians.”

Tareen said he himself had been sacked from the post of sessions judge in Noshaki district by Justice Chaudhry. “I was then a member of the Pakistan People’s Party and Nawaz Sharif, the former prime minister, dictated Justice Chaudhry to fire me,” he added.

Now, here is how this ‘RAT’ Iftikhar switched his loyalty from Nawaz to Musharraf:

In January 2000, Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry then a serving judge on the Balochistan High Court (BHC) was one of the first judges to take an oath on the PCO. This allowed him to be elevated to the Supreme Court to fill one of the vacancies left by the 11 judges who had resigned in protest at taking this oath.

On May 13 2000, Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry was one of 12 Supreme Court judges who validated the military coup of General Pervez Musharraf. They ruled that the removal of the elected government of Nawaz Sharif was legal on the basis of the “doctrine of necessity”.

In June 2001, Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry was one of two judges who visited the Presidency House to convince the then President Rafiq Tarrar to resign, and make way for General Pervez Musharraf to assume that office.

On Aril 13 2005, in the “Judgment on 17th Amendment and President’s Uniform Case”, Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry was one of 5 Supreme Court judges who dismissed all petitions challenging President Musharraf’s consistitutional amendments. In a wide ranging judgement they declared that the Legal Framework Order (LFO) instituted by General Musharraf after his suspension of the constitution, the 17th amendment which gave this constitutional backing, and the two offices bill which allowed Musharraf to retain his military uniform whilst being President were all legal.

Iss ko kahtay hain … how to be a RAT and progress fast in career. The reward for all above was that, Iftikhar became CJ on 7 May 2005, 3 weeks after his judgement on 17 Amendment.
