but some actually are! Punjabi lives on because of Jugats..not BhangRa.. (it's mostly the Sikh form of Punjabi anyway) and punchlines to jokes that just aren't the same expressed in any other language of the world.. except Punjabi.
People who think Punjabi is only about.. *tayree maaN ki, teeree behn kee, and Oye, and TooN Taraakh *have formed these opinions about the language not by living amongst punjabis speaking the language but by watching lollywood movies.

Punjabi, Pothwari, Hindko, Seraiki, (to some extent Sindhi) etc. are regional dialects of Urdu/Hindi.
Urdu/Hindi actually originated from Punjabi and Punjabi poets gave a lot to Urdu so Punjabi ppl have a lot of right to Urdu, it is just a refined version of Punjabi so a Punjabi is not speaking another language when he speak Urdu but just another dialect of his own language.
Like someone said there's no harm in slipping back and forth between the two but Urdu is the formal version, anyway it's quite easy to talk Urdu/Hindi and Punjabi seamlessly like in certain films, dramas and songs.
We're all Pakistanis and Urdu is our national language, no harm in speaking it.

I don't think there is any 'hating' going on here. I think this has been a good discussion except for a few posts.
Pakistani culture has becoem a mish-mash of different groups with a common language - Urdu. A person from the south of the country can communicate with someone from the north where both belong to different ethnic groups. To me, that's how a country/nation should be.
What are other elements of different ethnic groups that have become part of the mainstream Pakistani society?
Bhangra? Sindhi ajrak? What else?

had you heard gaalis in Urdu you won’t say that…and yes most urdu speaking people do give and take gaalis in chaste urdu.
