Punjabi students Can they study in universities of Karachi safely

Perhaps the title of my thread is not correct. I do not say that I will be ( allah na karay ) a victim of Target killing in Karachi by some element like JSQM or MQM. I will be inshahallah safe and sound at NUST Campus and will also get hostel at the end of 1st semester but…
I was told in reality by my friends and relatives that Punjabis are irrationally hated in Karachi. The people over there have prejudiced opinion for us. They will not trust me etc etc.
By-the-way, this is not my opinion, I just wanted clearification from actual karachi people. When I was planning to go to karachi, I was very happy. I consider Karachi a fantastic city. Where lies the manufacturing industry, the economy, the fashion industry and all the Television media.
The classes will commence from 5th September and I will inshahallah join PNEC.

Has any of them lived or studied in Karachi? if that was the case there woldn’t be majority of non-Karachite student in these institutions. I suggest speak to non-Karachite graduates from Karachi and they will give a clear account of what goes around in these universities and colleges. Don’t base your opinion on what you hear from people, who never had any exposure to that environment. whatever you choose, NUST or Karachi UNi, you will be safe if you concentrate on your studies ONLY. :k:

Dove , I am asking about UET Entry test in which 25000 students appeared not NUST .How many you got in UET Test ?
Regards

Well , its totally upon you and your choice. But if I have given the choice , i will prefer Chemical/Computer in my own city over Elect/Mech in another city rather another province. Its not only security issues , MQM Punjabi Pakhtoon thing , there are may other things which count. The comfort and relaxation that one find in his/her own house and city cannot be substituted for another city specially if you have spent your 12 long years of academia in the same city coming back your own house at 2 or 3 pm daily. Its a total change in lifestyle and ease and other benifits in one's own house. After a month or so returning from Karachi to Rawalpindi , sharing rooms and all other things are also to be considered.Last but not the least, Elect is saturated these days. Every private university is conducting Tele/Elect courses and market is full of it whether in cellular companies or other but Chemical is rare and job opportunities are great not only in Pakistan but abroad also in Gulf etc.For higher studies Chemical field is also diverged into various co-related fields.I know some people who are earning very smart at ICI , Dawood Hercules and other few other renowned names.

But in last , its totally upon you and your choice.

Im not a Karachi Brother, but my first cousin went to PNEC for his Electrical Engineering, as a NUST student. He lived there for 4 years, off campus, with his mother. The area around PNEC (Karsaz) is very safe, navy owned, and good. Accomodation is easily available. My cousin had a very good experience there, and has since moved to Lahore, but still remembers Karachi very fondly. You will have a great time there as a student.

Well since this forum was only discussing NUST, I considered you were asking about NUST and you did not mentioned UET. UET Test or ECAT Test was surprisingly different from the previous routine. On average, students have got only 200-250 at least what I have seen in my friends.** I only got 232**. The official result is to be displayed later. This is what I have calculated from the duplicate sheet using the key available at UET Website. I attempted 63 questions correctly, 20 questions wrongly and left 17 questions blank. As far as the difficulty level is considered, Physics Section was at the top. Questions on Chemistry were totally factual and rata-based derived from the lines of actual FSc Textbook. Mathematics questions on Calculus were relatively lenghthy, remaining questions were very easy. The test time was short only 80 minutes. This time UET has improved the entry test standard at least it was better than GIKI or AIR University. NUST and LUMS Tests can be ranked as the best. Anything else Bird? I am ready to reply.

Was your cousin from Lahore or Punjab? From where he completed his FSc or A LEVELS etc. Where he found accomodation-- flat , rented house or what. Had he relatives in khi. Please please do reply. I am particularly excited to ask these things as your cousin's case is just the same as mine. My mother is also destined to accomany me there in Karachi.

Re: Punjabi students Can they study in universities of Karachi safely

So far we had only one "arrow dipped in poison" here!

Re: Punjabi students Can they study in universities of Karachi safely

No thankyou Dove. Its nice of you.

But do consider my opinion that in market there are Elect Engineers from UET , NUST , GIKI, FAST-NUCES , Lahore University , Punjab University , Telecommunication Engineers from Lahore College for Women , Government College Lahore , Air University , COMSAT from all campuses in Punjab , IST , Taxila , Kala Shah Kaku , Faisalabad , Multan etc etc

but Chem is rare .Still it all upon you what you choose.Being at top Elect has a charm but see how many of them are doing it and what would be the saturation ratio in market.

aah typical ‘Mohajir oriented’ comment Mostar Jee.

I am giving suggestion to Dove based upon other things which she have to face in hostel life and long distance between Karachi and his home city etc . Not Muhajjir-Anti Muhajir debate.

thats another thing i do know how Punjabi students are treated in Karachi University and totally opposite in Punjab where nobody dare to say anything to Sindhis Mostar Jee but you always support these terrorists as you yourself are Muhajir alongwith 1.2 crore Muhajirs of Karachi which dont have done any ‘Hijrat’ in thier whole life but still consider them Muhajirs. I think we Punjabis in 1947 not done Hijrat but came on Chartered Flights in Punjab still we dont cosider ourself Muhajirs nor claim that we should be give **special ‘importance’ **of being Muhajir. A bit off topic but you are purposely bringing politics in this thread.Sorry Dove .

MQM ki Jai ! :rose:

Re: Punjabi students Can they study in universities of Karachi safely

I am not talking about your comments. They are reasonable.

I am referring to post number 3.

Those comments were superficial and probably came from a person who never been to Karachi.

Re: Punjabi students Can they study in universities of Karachi safely

Bhaijan I lived in Islamabad. Majority of the people are very nice and loving but still there are few poeple over there who will treat you like aliens.

So same is about Karachi - majority of the people here are same like people over there.

Aur aap nay sab kuch pharay bhagair mujhay galian dena shura kardi. Bohat tez khantay hain iss gulab kay. Pattain to Lahore say urti urti kaheen Dera Ghazi khan may hi gir gayee. Mujhay sirf khantay hi milan hain.

Re: Punjabi students Can they study in universities of Karachi safely

Sorry Mostar Jee , i dont want to derail Dove thread. So from me End.Lets have this topic in PA forum.Regards

Re: Punjabi students Can they study in universities of Karachi safely

Thanks. But you dejected me with an unnecessary outrage.

Re: Punjabi students Can they study in universities of Karachi safely

Sorry

Definitely, I agree. There was no need to initiate this debate overhere. Although, I ,like, Desert-bird do not have a good opinion for MQM but we should not generalise that opinion to muhajirs or people of Karachi. The political forces have so much impact on us. But we should not allow the politicians to divide us on ethnic roots. Initially, perhaps I was also questioning
the morality of Karachites on this thread. Sorry 4 that.

My cousin is from Lahore, an only child. He got admitted to NUST PNEC, and went there happily. On-campus accommodation is mainly for naval students, so he had to live off-campus. He got an apartment in Gulshan-e-Jamal, which is a locality right behind PNS Karsaz, and close to the Millenium mall roundabout. He lived there with his mother throughout the course of his studies in Karachi.
Pros:
Area is dominated by navy, and a short distance from askari 4, home to senior retired army officers, hence, safety is fairly decent.
Close to Gulistane Jauhar, Gulshan Iqbal and North Nazimabad, hence, just about every good shopping area is within your reach.
Close to the university, so no long commute.
PNEC is in PNS Jauhar, which is a naval unit, so no hanky panky there. No student politics, no strikes, no unions.
Close to National Stadium, Expo Center, Agha Khan Hospital.

Cons:
In case of MQM related strikes, Jauhar , N. Nazimabad and Gulshan are usually the hardest hit, so you can get confined to your home in case of strikes.

If you can afford it, you can rent a place in KDA (if available), which is right across the street from PNEC, and is an affluent, and nice neighborhood. Its one of last places to be affected by city strikes.
Over all, you are not targeted just because you are from Punjab. I myself lived in Karachi for a couple of years without any problems of racism.

Yes. It is also close to Tariq Road, Dhoraji Colony where he/she can go for shipping and good food.

Re: Punjabi students Can they study in universities of Karachi safely

Wow, this thread got hot very quickly.

I'm a born-and-raised Karachiite and I honestly don't know of anyone who was targeted in Karachi JUST for being from Punjab or Lahore. I think this is all political and shouldn't affect how all Pakistanis feel about each other. I grew up in a very close-knit neighborhood in Karachi and many of our neighbors were Punjabis (Lahoris and otherwise) and we treated each other like family.. even during the many racially-targeted political incidents that happen so often in Karachi. A lot of these Punjabi families had their children in universities and colleges.. and there were no problems because of their background.

I think there's political racial discrimination everywhere, but more in Karachi because of the sheer number of different races living there. Karachi is where you find ALL kinds of Pakistanis and Non-Pakistanis.

So I think you'll be fine as long as you don't get involved in the politics. Also if you follow the above advice about where to live, you'll be safe overall.

I am so sorry to write some thing offtopic in this thread, but due to some replies I am compelled to express.

As I told in my earlier post , that my studies are from Karachi , DCET.

I was comming from North Waziristan where no political activities are allowed , no political Parties exist.

But when I came to Karachi , I preferable joined in Political wing of Students along my studies and I was really excited for that.

I donot know why we are keeping ourselves away from Politics , If we will be not doing Politics , then who will be doing it ?

Yes , who are doing it , results are in front of us ? and we can see our Country demcratic ranking.

@DOVE

PNEC is NUST and No Political activities over there so no fear , however I am not in favour of keeping our Youngsters away from Politics.
