Kashmiri are less active then Afghanis. Afghanis travel from Kabul to Karachi and you can find many Afghanis in Karachi who call them Pashtun. Kashmiri refugees are restricted to refugee camps and can be seen mostly in Pakistani Kashmir (Muzaffarabad) and Islamabad.
Re: Punjabi Hindus: forlorn and on the path to extinction
They probably feel they have a better chance of economic existence in India than Bangladesh.
From wikipedia …
In 1991 census Muslim population growth rates in these states were found to be much higher than the growth rates of the local Hindu population even after adjusting for the usual higher growth rate of Muslims observed throughout the country.Lately, Bangladeshi illegal migrants have been moving toKerala owing to the high wages for unskilled and semi-skilled laborers in the state. The Kerala police are reportedly finding it difficult to check the influx of these Bangladeshi illegal migrants.[SUP][35]](Illegal immigration to India - Wikipedia)[/SUP] Kerala State Intelligence officials said they found that a large section of migrant laborers in the state claiming to be from West Bengal were actually from Bangladesh.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illegal_immigration_in_India#Bangladeshi_immigrants
Re: Punjabi Hindus: forlorn and on the path to extinction
economic reasons play part in migration. One who can afford goes to Middle East and Western countries, other can opt for neighboring countries.
Re: Punjabi Hindus: forlorn and on the path to extinction
How many Muslims have migrated from India to Pakistan or elsewhere due to Bal Thakre or Shiv Sena ?

How many Hindus have migrated to India from Pakistan since 1951?
Re: Punjabi Hindus: forlorn and on the path to extinction
If we consider your maths, then the hindus should have been 45 % of Pakistan's population in 1951, as BD and Pakistan both had almost the same populations.
Just one comment. 22% in west Pak and 22% in Bangladesh of Hindus dies not equal 44% intotal Pak.
It is just 22%.
Re: Punjabi Hindus: forlorn and on the path to extinction
Yes I know, but the minorities in West Pakistan were not 22 %. The reason being that the partition reduced the minorities in Punjab to less than 1 % from 22 %, and Punjab constitutes 55-60 % of the population of the country. The non muslim population in KP and Balochistan was 5 % and 8 % in 1941, that would have meant to reach the 22 % the population of Hindus in Sindh would have to be well over 50 % which was not the case (Sindh was 25 % hindu in 1941).
Re: Punjabi Hindus: forlorn and on the path to extinction
^ Interesting g discussions. Enjoying it and learning a lot from all quarters. For me to fully understand above post, I need to continue from that % post. Will do so soon.
The answer to this thread is hidden in the effects of partition on Punjab and Sindh provinces of Pakistan as they both contribute to more than 80 percent of pakistans population. KP had only 5 percent non Muslims in 1941 and the population of balochistan is very small as compared to the rest of the country.

The figure that I have got for Sindh is that 776000 Hindus left the province in 1947, and 1448100 Muslims took their place hence shifting the demographics there.
*Assumption: For computing the impact of partition on Sindh I have used the 1941 census is base, and removed 776000 non muslims and added 1448100 muslims there which reduces the population of non muslims to 10 % of the population and used that to compute the population in 1951. In Punjab I have used 1 % as the non muslim population as we know what happened there. I have left the proportion of non muslims in NWFP and Balochistan unchanged and see what impact it has had on the 1951 census. *
Re: Punjabi Hindus: forlorn and on the path to extinction
There are two interesting facts with regards to the topic being discussed in this thread.
1) At the time of independence about 4.9 million non muslims migrated from Pakistan to India, who were replaced by 6.3 millions muslims.
2) Another point to think of is that between 1881 to 1941, the population of muslims in British Indian Punjab increased from 47 % to 53 %, and hindus decreased from 44 % to 29 %. What was going on there?

My friend, why do you keep going back to pre-1947 ? I have been giving you data from 1951 census which takes into account the cross border movement in 1947 but you are refusing to address that question and instead confusing things by talking about what happened in 1947.
Its a given that there was demographic shift in 1947, but by 1951 most of that had settled. Lets start our discussion from there instead of talking about 1947.
Re: Punjabi Hindus: forlorn and on the path to extinction
How many Hindus have migrated to India from Pakistan since 1951?
A few hundred have migrated and an unknown number have been forced to convert.
How many Muslims have migrated from India to Pakistan or elsewhere due to Bal Thakre or Shiv Sena ?
Re: Punjabi Hindus: forlorn and on the path to extinction
^ that post is self explanatory, the data you keep providing from wikipedia is flawed. Can you please explain how the hindus in Punjab reduce from 44 % to 29 % between 1881 and 1941?

1881 to 1941 is irrelevant for this discussion. But even your data says that Hindu population was 29% in 1941. Can you tell me the Hindu population in Punjab in 1951 ? Not your guess, but verifiable data (I was unable to find that online, maybe you will have better luck). I am guessing the impact of partition would be included in there.
Whats your basis for saying that the Wikipedia data is flawed ?
Re: Punjabi Hindus: forlorn and on the path to extinction
^ I have mentioned in multiple posts above, the hindu population in Punjab in 1951 was less than 1 % (and that has to do with migration and not genocide). I have proved the data wrong in post 132.

Like I said, not your guess but a credible source of data.

Not sure what the source of the data in # 132 is.
