I was writting the reply to Xtreme’s thread in cafe where mentioning of Pujabi Dirty Jokes came up.
We have a huge variety of Dirty jokes in Punjabi culture ranging in flavor from a subtle insinuation to hardcore phrases.
Like any other rich culture, the premise of jokes involves taunts on ethenicity to age group to physical body parts to even animals. There are whole variety of ‘puns’ to rhyme or contrast with various phrases and concepts combined with twists and surprises.
There is a whole big suject matter dedicated to Sikhs. Sardar ji lateefays are perhaps most popular in Pakistan side of Punjab, and I’m sure the flip side holds true in Indian Punjab. No vocabulary or compilation is completed without Sardar ji lateefays.
Punjabis come off as ‘khulay dullay’ log in general, and the attitude shows in their humor as well. Anybody from different culture would consider many things that are normal to a Punjabi to be extremely elaborate, crude, and rough. I think what distinguishes Punjabi humor from other forms is the way obscenity is encapsulated into crudeness. It’s crude but it’s not barbaric or gory. In other cultures like American, for example, the emphasis is more on humor most of the times but Punjabis tend to go for the insults and gibes more than anything.
So, Chann ji, makhi baithi ay kay naee hajay tak?
