i would say the english term dialect could be applied to regional version of a language… like its said that potwari, majhaa are dialects… and they do have a lot of difference… its difficult for people to comprehend different dialects…so i think ‘dialect’ encompasses a vast degree variation…

The vast area Punjab covers (both in India and Pakistan including Indian areas which later excluded from Punjab like Himachal and Haryana), Punjabi must have more dialects than any language in subcontinent
