Punjab News: LAHORE, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Monday has challenged verdict in former Prime Minister (PM) Benazir Bhutto murder case in Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench. According to details, PPP leader Latif Khosa filed the petition against the decision, stating that Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) didn’t fulfill law requirements. The petition further revealed that reports of United Nations and Scotland Yard were neglected while announcing the decision. On August 31, ATC had announced the verdict in Benazir Bhutto murder case after nine years, and declared former president Pervez Musharraf absconder. The court had directed to forfeit the property of Musharraf while it also sentenced former Rawalpindi CPO Saud Aziz and former Rawal Town SP Khurram Shahzad to 17 years in prison, and fined them Rs5 lac apiece. Furthermore, the court also released the other five suspects, who were nabbed in this case, over lack of evidence against them. Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in a gun-and-bomb attack outside Rawalpindi’s Liaquat Bagh on December 27, 2007 while Musharraf was president. She was killed after addressing an election campaign rally in the city. A trial of five suspects, who were arrested by police, started in February 2008 which was later handed over to FIA. The ATC had indicted former president Pervez Musharraf in the case in February 2011, and in August the same year he was declared a proclaimed offender. A separate case was filed against his continuous absence. Punjab News
Imran Khan not capable of contesting elections: Hashmi
Punjab News: MULTAN, Veteran politician Javed Hashmi on Tuesday said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan is not capable of contesting elections. Hashmi’s remarks comes just days after PTI lost crucial election in NA-120 in Lahore where Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) regained their seat after the ouster of Nawaz Sharif. “I do not want to weaken him. He should be growing stronger,” he said speaking to mediapersons at the Multan Press Club. “Instead he is making mistakes and creating differences within the party.” Hashmi said that Imran Khan is not capable of running elections today, and that the popularity of the PTI is gradually declining. He said he told the PTI chief three years ago that such campaigns would tire his supports and weaken the party to no avail, resulting in empty chairs during campaigns now. He further said the biggest conspiracies today are against the PML-N. He said that if Kulsoom Nawaz is elected as prime minister, then this means that there is no more confidence in Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. Hashmi said the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) were nearing their political demise. However, he said that he did not wish to see this happen and both parties should continue to survive.Punjab News
