So all this time, we were given the impression that Punjab is the best amongst all, with the least amount of power theft, and highest recovery rates. According to FIA, Sukkur and Hyderabad in Sindh are the worst in bill recoveries, KPK and Baluchistan have disparity in supply vs recovery because of law and order, and Punjab is the worst when it comes to power theft.
^ they have been claiming Punjab is number one in bill recovery, that's still the case. At least for Karachi I can tell from my personal experience that its one of the worst places in terms of bill recovery, my own area got its electricity cut off twice in last 2 years when dues crossed 30milion (its small area, not more than 1.5 square km, no industry)
as for theft its shameful how Punjab is leading, this is huge amount, and i feel it can nullify the effect of "good bill recovery" if not surpass it. and its not only electricity, but gas also. but at least now the thieves are being caught and brought to light instead of covering up, which i appreciate. i hope the FIA campaign is also run in other parts of the country with same ferocity as currently in Punjab. only this campaign is not enough though, we must hear about how much money has been recovered and what punishments are handed to the thieves.
I think the solution was to privatize LSE ? like KESC was privatized. There was an article in CNN on how it worked when initially, there were protests for people kicked out of jobs for non-merit and how employees had to pass through picket lines fearing for their lives.
LESCO is not that bad. Its central and south punjab which are the worst in power theft. Punjab is also way ahead in gas theft, with a few PML-N offiice bearers found to be involved in pilferage of gas on a large scale. News of Rohail Asghar stealing gas for his factories came out a few months ago, but the case has been suppressed since PML-N came to power. What else is new.
