The Punjab Health Department (HD) despatched medicine trucks and medical teams to Muzaffarabad and Islamabad on Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi’s directive.
The teams were sent from Jinnah Hospital (Lahore) and the medicine trucks were donated by Services Hospital, Mayo Hospital, Lahore General Hospital and Jinnah Hospital. Health Minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed is supervising the arrangements and he directed hospitals’ administrations the availability of doctors, medicines, paramedical staff and ambulances, so that the victims could be provided medical help.
Teaching hospitals’ beds have been reserved for the victims and if required, more beds would be provided. The Health Department had completed arrangements for the provision of medical aid to the victims in public sector hospitals.
The Punjab University established a relief camp at Khanispur, Ayubia to provide victims medical assistance, announced PU Vice Chancellor Lt General (r) Muhammad Arshad and said that the PU would donate Rs 0.5 million to relief operations.
The vice chancellor made the announcement while presiding over an emergency meeting with various departments’ deans, principals, directors and chairmen of various departments.
The VC formed a relief fund and a special committee, led by Dr Dil Muhammad, in this regard. Members of the committee include Dr Haris, Rashid, Dr Raza Zaidi, Dr Mugheesur Rehman Sheikh, Dr Shahida Husnain, Ghausai Gillani, Dr Akram Chaudhry and Treasuerer Abdul Sattar Judga.
