Its not the role of public education to educate children on matters of faith. Such matter should be left to parents, madrassas, and ulema. Govt schools should focus on math, science, and general social sciences. There is no dearth of sources in Pakistan to learn about Islam, but very few places of quality to teach math and science.

Agreed to most of your post save the bolded part. Currently if you want to study Islamic teaching in Pakistan, either you go to a madrasah or attend maulana Tariq jamils jalsas. How is that providing quality Islamic education and teaching to the masses? The semi-decent source of Islamic teaching left were the official textbooks. It really scares me that people will now either get a hand me down version of Islam in Pakistan or learn whatever from Sheikh Google
