just to refresh our sweet childhood memories, lets share what were the some punishments you dreaded in your school days.
i hated it when the teacher would punish me by making me sit in the class room and have my snacks there only during the break
that 20 mins break seemed to be never-ending at that time.
I hated standing in front of board, once my teacher made me and my best friend out of class after the class it was break and we were so happy tht we will be first one to reach canteen. after tht we started doing daily sometimes just before 15 mins of break so tht teacher make us stand outside and then we can reach canteen before everyone, but sadly teacher ko pata chal gaya n she started making us stand in the class
school and madarsa, I hated that ‘mola bukhs’ labelled stick.
While, I had to face this mola bukhs twice in school life. One brought positive changes and other was not positive for the teacher. In class four, I was not comfortable with ‘Division’ sums in Maths class. In one test, I scored 70 out of 100, but due to ‘0’ marks in Division section, I got around 7-8 rounds of stick on my hands. That teacher Sir Qayyum (who was my Dadi’s second cousin) was quite ferocious. He liked hari mirchi wale pakoRe a lot and used to beat one of his relatives (probably his brother-in-law) with fresh / green branches of tree and that by making the boy lie on a bench and then hitting his feet, till the boy fainted. I came crying from school and then came my newly married chachi to rescue. She put all her efforts on me to learn ‘Division’ sums and in next test carried within a week, I scored in 90s.
Second time, it was in class nine and that was not for studies. I was just watching outside window, when that teacher (who was definitely not in good terms with his wife) throw his anger on me and a friend as we were busy talking to each other (though that teacher was not teaching anything at that time). My father complained to the Head Master and as there were more complaints against the teacher, he was shortly transferred to another school.
There are no good memories for Madarsa as well. One beating and I just denied to memorise Quran (Hifz) and didn’t listen to any of family members. Their requests, their threats to boycott, nothing worked. That molvi gave me basharat of dozakh and I looked in his eyes with expressions ’ we will see’
There used to be this cocept of ‘break band ho gayee’ where you were not allowed to go for recess in the middle of the day.Sometimes it was combined with the thing where the teacher told you to hand over your lunch to some other kid who probably didn’t bring their lunch that day.The kid would eat half of it and gave the other half to you after recess.
I was given this one punishment once when I was in grade 2.I am not sure what actually caused it but I very vividly remember that I cried all the time I was made to sit in the classroom while other kids were in the playground.Mom had given me qeema matar sandwich and that other kid brought the half eaten sandwich back to me after recess…yukhhhh.
Now that I think about it,it was such a wrong thing to take a kid’s lunch and give to someone else and then have the half eaten stuff given back…disgusting…!!
First Danda you know its coming on your hand . but after that .. its the Anticipation that kills the most more than the pain .. is it coming or not .. and whamm all of a sudden ..
I don’t remember any major punishments at our school.. We used to get detentions fairly easily but it wasn’t too bad.. The detention room was like a big conservatory next to the car park so we’d just sit there, chat and watch people come and go
Probably the worst punishment ever was in grade 4 when the teacher went outside to talk to her fiance and told me to keep the class disciplined. In her absence, the class was making noise and the headmaster came. He yelled at everyone and called the teacher into his office. She came back furious and made me give the whole class two strikes each on their hands with takhti. I had to do this to everyone including my friends. And in the end, she made me stand in front of the whole class and hit the back of my hands with takhti because I couldn’t observe her orders… and because she thought I was going easy on others, so she wanted to show me this is how it’s done.
She then left the whole class standing and in tears, and went to the boardroom. We had to write her an apology note and bring her back, promising to never do this again.
My grandfather was ready to kill someone when he saw my hands.
i had none because i did not go to any school from KG to grade 9. the FIRST time i ever set my foot in any classroom setting was when i enrolled in grade 10.
my dad didn’t send me to the school in my village because it wasn’t a good school. i was sent to the ONLY school that was run by Aligarh Muslim University. i had a hard time fitting in with other kids but within a month i was in the most influential group of students at my school.
Another time I left school and went to my friend’s home which was like 5 min away but in the opposite direction of my home. Then when I was walking home, the headmaster’s daughter (who wasn’t even my teacher) caught me and locked me up in her office (lights off and door closed from outside). She said this is your punishment for not going home straight after school. Well, guess what, she carried on with her headmistress duties and forgot all about me. I knocked and knocked but no one came. At some point, I fell asleep crying. And poor bichaaray mere ghar wale they were looking for me everywhere, thinking I’ve been abducted because the school was locked by now. They went to the headmaster’s home, and that’s when she remembered she had abandoned me in the school.
I think I was in grade 4 or 5.
