Pukhtoonkhwa

Dear all

I just want to encourage all my fellow citizens to write and show support to rename our province. i expect every pakistani national to stand with us (pukhtoons) on this issue. We believe that this is the right of the people of Pukhtoonkhwa to have thier own name on world name. The provincial assembly have passed a resolution unonimously in Nawaz sharifs 2nd term to rename NWFP , but rejcetd by federal govt. The name issue is taught to be an issue only for a specific party by the federal govt, which is not simply true. Its a issue with all people living in that region and have every right to get that name.
I expect our punjabi, Sindhi and Balochi brothers to stand firm with us and have voice in our favor on this issue. I also want to appeal to all pukhtoon brother to open their heart for other fellow citizens and not regrd them as their enimies. We have to eliminate hate from our minds and hearts and we have to establish ourselves as one nation with a spectrum of ethinic colors.

** Long live Pakistan, Pukhtoonkhwa, Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan.**

Re: Pukhtoonkhwa

It makes sense.

If Punjab, Balouchistan and Sindh can have ethnic names then so should Pakhtunkhwa.

I know Punjab and Sindh were once named after rivers but now they are identified with Punjabi and Sindhi people.

Re: Pukhtoonkhwa

110% agreed! either Pukhtoonkhwa or Pukhtoonistan! what the hell is NWFP n e way? wat are we nwfpians?

Re: Pukhtoonkhwa

I agree aswell.. There is no reasonable excuse for why the province should not be renamed... Its criminal.
More power to the residents of Pukhtoonkhwa...

Re: Pukhtoonkhwa

Why not, because I don't think it is necessarily an ethnic name, just like Punjab and Sindh.

I read somewhere that the government will probably offer the NWFP parties a name change to Pakhtoonkhwa, which will neutralise their opposition to the Kalabagh Dam. This could explain why the ruling MMA has been deliberatley confusing about it's position on the dam, neither totally opposed or for it, and Maulana Fazlur Rehman has even been talking about Mianwali being transferred to NWFP/Pakhtoonkhwa, which would lessen opposition to the project.

Re: Pukhtoonkhwa

Being a Punjabi, I Strongly agree to rename NWFP Pakhtoonkhwa or whatever that acceptable to people of NWFP.

NWFP is not a name we all know.

Re: Pukhtoonkhwa

I have read up on the issue and have changed opinions.

Pashtuns are an integral and respected part of Pakistani society but they should have some respect for other communities in Pakistan, there are many other ethnic groups in NWFP who deserve just as much recognition as do Pashtuns.

A neutral name like Khyber would be much more appropriate, the same should be done with Balochistan as there are Pashtuns living in Balochistan a neutral name would be much more appropriate. Punjab and Sindh already have neutral names and are named after rivers not people but if need be they should have a look at changing those too.

Re: Pukhtoonkhwa

other groups who do not have their ethnicity linked to the name of their province or a province named after them are probably excluded from this expectation of support right?
