The fact that PTV was actually making profit in PPP’s tenure proves that PPP - despite all its crimes - has less of a tendency to use and abuse media for their advantage.
PMLN in power has historic record of being a curse for media independence and journalistic integrity.
Now this report makes me think that we would’ve believed that PPP is also ‘performing at every front’ had Zardari invested few billions into buy media houses and journalists.
Handful of anti opposition ad campaigns from public money would’ve done couple of wonders for PPP, the way it’s doing for PMLN. Or so their supporters like to tell us.
Nepotism destroyed this organisation. How come a person like Qasmi, having no experience of production became Chairperson.
But this loss did not incur in a year or so, there is a long history behind destruction of the organisation. I don't know how come PTV earned profits during PPP era, but I'm sure that might not be due to any planing.
PTV failed to develop a new generation of its own producers after 1990s. Most of the experienced persons joined private channels (like Sultana Siddiqui, Ayub Khawar, etc). Even PTV stopped producing its own dramas. I don't think that currently, PTV is showing any serial produced by its production team, its all about rejected 3rd rate private productions. Its producers are earning muft ki salaries.
PTV must've made profit in PPP's era probably due to the fact that since PPP wasn't interested in image building propaganda, they may have hired less cronies in PTV hence the channel was relatively less under pressure (or the cronies had different jobs) & wasn't churning out political litter like it's doing in PMLN's time.
