Manto Kahani 1: Bus Stand
Did any1 watch the first kahani? This starred Asad, Sania Saeed and Sonia Khan. I was shocked at the ending …Did sania and asad do what I thought they did? (i.e. commit adultery) I didn’t think pakistani dramas would portray such things.
Sania and asad were good as always, i think sonia khan has become a better actress by polishing up her acting skills,
i actually read Manto about 12 years ago. I was visiting Pakistan and bought his short stories book. I had no idea what some of his work was famous for. Upon reaching home, I disclosed to a handfull of aunties and my mom that I bought this book. I got mixed reactions.
When i started reading the book, it dawned upon me as to why some aunties were giving me weird looks. But to be honest, it isn't something erotic or cheap. It's a lil spicy, may be.
funguy, good thing you mentioned the mixed reaction by the aunties. If I happen to read I’ll make sure I don’t mention it to aunties or relatives.
ahmadjee, there’s a bit of that in almost every novel, short story that you read. It should be alright so long as it isn’t explicit material and something that parents would find objectional.
I have come across the following three books of his:
Though if you are worried that your parents might get offended, then I would suggest you read it after you have come over than fear & have become a parent yourself. :-)

If you haven't read Manto, your grasp of Urdu literature is very shallow.

I haven't really had a proper chance to read urdu literature, but from what i hear about the writer and his style of writing i think i'll try and get hold of his books.
I feel the first episode has been very well directed, but obviously those of you who have read his books can only make the comparison and comment on the direction.
All of his short stories are combined in 2 books. Manto Rama and Manto Naama. Each one is about 1000 pages long. They are easy to find in Pakistan but not sure about overseas. Really good stuff though.
His short story ‘Tooba tek singh’ is critically’ considered best Urdu afsana in urdu literature. ‘Thanda gosh’ is a really good yet controversial piece of work. :k:
