Ptv drama shaam se pehle (Manzoor Qureshi, Tahira Wasti, Sharqa Fatima, Adnan Jillani, Kamran Jillani, Imran Sheikh, and Ayesha Khan)
Written by Nighat Abdullah, Dramatisation Seema Ghazal, Directed by Kazim Pasha......it was a good drama. i fully used to follow it.

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

Agreed a gr8 drama with powerful performances.

I remember PTV Long play 'Maut se Pehle' *ing: Arifa Siddiqui & Uzma Gilani. The story revolves around a middle aged widow (played by Uzma Gilani), who had to interact with men due to her business dealing and construction of a new house. She was then diagnosed cancer and suggested to be operated soon. She wanted to hide that from her daughter (played by Arifa Siddiqui), so she pretend to be out of city for couple of days. But her daughter, not knowing the facts, blame her for having affair with a colleague. The last scene, when Arifa show her resentment and say ' I hate you mom from the core of my heart' and the expressions on Uzma Gilani's face were worth watching.

I heard Uzma Gilani in an interview where she was asked to name her favorite actress. She replied Arifa Siddiqui due to her performance in 'Maut se pehle'.

Maut se pehle was also re-made in Ek Mohabbat Sau Afsane (new one), where Saba Pervez played the role of Uzma Gilani. I don't remember who played Arifa's role.

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

i can kind of remember maut se pehle both uzma and saba one. :hmmm:

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

PTV Series Kahani Ghar, based on short stories of famous writers, directed by: Ayub Khawar. Some of the plays in the series were:

(1) Katba (writer Ghulam Abbas- it is also included in our Urdu syllabus). Sohail Asghar did wonderful job in main role of a clerk, who couldn’t afford to buy house and takhti bought by him for his home finally became Katba of his grave.

(2) Kallo (story: Bano Qudsia, dramatised by: Neelam Ahmed Basheer). Maria Wasti gave wonderful performance in main role alongwith Saleem Shaikh & Rehana Siddiqui

(3) Amarbail (story Bano Qudsia): Resham proved her acting skills against senior actor Abid Ali, in a role of teenage girl who fell in love with her father’s friend

(4) Ghar se Ghar Tak (story: Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi also included in Urdu Syllabus). Rehana Siddiqui performed very well in role of middle class woman, who borrow furniture, crockery, etc from neighbors to show off.

(5) Aapa (story: Mumtaz Mufti). Arifa Siddiqui performed very well in role of a girl, who could not get married to her cousin (played by Nabeel) as he couldn’t recognise her love due to calmness and marry a young talkative girl.

(6) Hammam Main (story: Ghulam Abbas). Saba Pervez did main role

(7) Ammi (story: Ashfaq Ahmed). Samina Ahmed performed the title role perfectly.

(8) Fancy Hair cut Ceylon (story: Ghulaam Abbas)

(9) Toto (Story: Saadat Hussain Manto) Iffat Rahim & Noman Ejaz performed very well in the main roles

(10) Bakht Maaray

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

^ Kahani Gher was a great drama series. I remember at the start of the drama, there used to be a very short intro about the writer. It was a great initiative by PTV Lahore center. Kahani Gher and another drama series namely Qasmi Kahani deserve lot of praise since they dramatised some of the brilliant stories/afsanay of Urdu literature. Ayub Khawar being himself a poet did a great work and service by directing these plays. Are these plays especially Kallo & Katba available anywhere ?

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

^ Yes Qasmi Kahani was also another gr8 series by Ayub Khawar. I couldn't found any of the dramas from Qasmi Kahani online. From Kahani Ghar only Amarbail is available online and above clips from Bakht Maray.

Most of the stories (afsane) dramatised in these series are available for downloading / reading online.

Ayub Khawar also involved in dramatising stories of 'Gulzar' as 'Gulzar Classics' from ARY Digital. Some of the plays from this series are also worth watching.

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

^ Thats the unfortunate thing that such classics are neither available on internet nor in the market. Do you remember the play Ehsaan from Qasmi Kahani? It was my favourite from this drama series starring Azmul Haq & Arifa Siddiqi, great performance by both of them. It was also the last tv appearance of Azmul Haq as an actor.

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

Yes eyeAy, I certainly remember this play. Actually, during discussion with my colleague this morning regarding age difference between married couple, I referred him this drama. Beautifully dramatised by Amjad Islam Amjad and it was first play of the series airing every weekend on Thursday.

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

Thanks muqawwee123 for sharing the link and other info. You have got really good memory. I actually bought the book Neela Pathar in order to read this story Ehsaan after watching it :). On PTV there was a tribute to Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi (under the series of program named Khiraj-e-Tehseen hosted by Anwer Maqsood) in which clippings from almost all of the aboved plays of Qasmi Kahani were shown. Just before the end of this program, Saira Naseem sang a beautiful ghazal by Qasmi sahab, it was : Wohi naqsh char soo hai wohi aks roo baroo hai, mujhey teri arzoo thee mujhey teri arzoo hai. Saira sang it very well, I have been looking for this item but thats not available anywhere, not even in the albums of Saira Naseem.

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

Yes the ghazal wordings are impressing. I also tried to find out but couldn’t succeed. I, however, found a clip from this tribute program, where Shokat Ali singing Qasmi saheb’s ghazal.

Moreover, TV One has also produced a good series namely ‘Bolte Afsane’ based on famous writers’ stories. In that series, Qasmi Saheb’s ‘Aalan’ was also dramatised. Sanam Baloch did wonderful job in that role. here is the link.

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

ik haqeeqet sahi firdaus mein hooron ka wajood
husn-e-insaan se nimet loon tou wahan tek dekhoon

Thats one of the best works by Qasmi sahab, though this particular sher was not sung by Shaukat Ali but its there in actual ghazal. The link is not working at the moment, will check it again later.

Re: PTV Plays since 27 Nov-1964

Here is the link for ‘Aalan’ promo.

Botay Afsaane was a gr8 work from TVOne. They also dramatised ‘Toba Tek Singh’ &‘Ghar se Ghar Tak’ of Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi. Ismat Chughtai’s ‘Bichchu Phupi’ is also worth watching.
