The PTV MD Arshad Khan has suddenly resigned. No clear reasons etc visisble so far. Reports say that Maj Gen Rashid Qureishi who had been Gen Musharraf’s PR director (DG ISPR) since 1999c till Maj Gen Shaukat Sultan’s appointment to the post and Gen Quresihi’s transfer as the DG National Guard, will take up the position. http://www.pakistantimes.net/2006/05/13/top8.htm
But there seems to be some controversy. Arshad Khan later said he hasnt left his office yet and no one has been appointed in his place thus far, but a press release issued from PTV had stated; “PTV Academy Director Ashraf Azeem had taken over the charge as acting PTV managing director.”
Which Arshad Khan said was a confusion since;
*“a fake press release had been issued on official letter head and from an official number”

Lol an Army man running PTV as well…us bad civilians simply don’t have the brains to run any technical department the way the Faujis have..I mean our nuke programme has been run so effectively under Army control..not one scandal associated with it..:halo:
Each day is fair and balmy,
Everywhere you look,
the army.
The Army are angels according to some on this forum!
Career civil servants are consistently being shoved down the ladder by the Army spreading its tentacles everywhere. The once mighty CSP has fallen due to the Army men(serving and retired) taking all positions,
And before those blind Army lovers start having a fit, the Army has run Pakistan for the majority of its existence, and presently so of course it will be commented on.
There are many who will not let bad deeds be ignored just because others drool at a man in uniform
The Army aren't devils TRD either..and nether are politicians..but soldiers job is to defend our frontiers not run businesses or run TV stations or education departments..there is a direct correlation between peoples views of the Army in power and during a civilian government..during Military regimes there is a decline in peoples approval of the Army.
These are all symptomatic of the collapse in the CSP as you have said and Haris mentioned in another post.

You are right. There are many brave soldiers and officers, as in every Army.
Unfortunately Army involvement in politics has turned what was once a professional and effective fighting force into one where the officers main concern is plots, appointments, power and money.
For the sake of the country we need a professional Army again.
A two-man convo in a thread sucks. So Ill join the hate parade.
Army has all sorts of people. Some good, some bad. Pak Army has more control over civil affairs than the armies of most countries have. But, lets consider the biggest Army envolvement in any civil affair, the Presidents coup. I think in the few years hes been around, Pakistan has seen some light of prosperity, which it ws not seeing under the civllian officials that were doing the job. . My point is, do whatever works. Although, one day Id like to see proper democratic politcal system run by uncorrupted, self-less and patriotic politicians. Until that day, the Army will stay, to make all our troubles, go away.
Last time I checked the good civilians ran all the way to bad faujis even to collect electric bills… But then collecting bills is a big challenge in Pak…
Pakap: Do tell when the civilians actually had a free reign to do anything? I count barely 7 years in total where civilians had a free hand to act..
Abdali: true civilians did go to the Army..tell me if your house has been occupied by some qabza group and you call the police to evict them. Once the police reach there they kick out one or two of the people in the qabza group, then shift into your house and share it with the qabza group..is it your fault for asking the police to do their job?
I kind of agree with Zakk's and TheRealDeal's views posted above. However, we haven't been able to ascertain what's going on behind the scences with regard to PTV.
Under army controlled PTV, there'll be good programmes on PTV- they should stop these plays etc and should try to make it more religious.. I am hoping one day the army capture Lollywood and start producing meaning serious punjabi films and not funny films mocking at veshi jatts and gujjars.
Contrary to rumors a civilian has been appointed MD of PTV.
Ashraf Azim assumes charge as MD PTV
By A Reporter
ISLAMABAD, May 19: Ashraf Azim has assumed charge as new managing director of Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV). Soon after assuming the office the new managing director announced to revive the quarterly General Managers Conference of PTV and vowed to use all his capabilities to improve the standard of PTV programmes. According to a press release issued here, Ashraf Azim addressed the directors of the PTV and asked them to play a vibrant role to improve the performance of their concerned departments. He expressed his determination to set new tradition in media and said the PTV would provide healthy entertainment to the viewers which would also reflect the country’s civilization. He also held a meeting with the employees of the PTV and said experienced employees of the organisation were a valuable asset for the PTV. He said his doors would remain open for all employees as it was the duty of all to work collectively for the betterment of the organisation.
Good news I guess Qureshi would have a hard time answering questions about how he used to pledge that Musharraf would not stay in power no matter what..how he would never meet a corrupt leader and how he would create real democracy and give rights to the provinces.
