PTI's Tareen trounces PML-N's Baloch in NA-154 Lodhran by-poll

huge win for PTI…and a big slap for PMLN. i think this is a swing of 70,000 votes in one constituency - between 2013 and 2015.

Re: PTI's Tareen trounces PML-N's Baloch in NA-154 Lodhran by-poll

Had this guy ran independent like he did in 2013 General Elections he might have given a tougher fight to Tareen.

This was not PMLN seat to begin with, PMLN stood third or fourth in 2013 GE.

So no swing of votes ...

PTI won this seat so all power to them...

Re: PTI's Tareen trounces PML-N's Baloch in NA-154 Lodhran by-poll

sarkar, sadiq baloch won in 2013 as an independent securing 82K votes
tareen came second with 72K votes
PMLN guy pir rafih uddin secured 45K votes

after winning, sadiq baloch joined PMLN, so in reality PMLN had 127K votes to begin with. how come it wasnt PMLN home? plus whole state machinery, huge local package and what not

so this time, tareen went from 70K to 140K and PMLN went from 127K to 100K...

Re: PTI's Tareen trounces PML-N's Baloch in NA-154 Lodhran by-poll

South Punjab has been a stronghold of PPP as compared to Pmln. In 2013, their candidate got 11 k votes, which has come down to 1800 now...their graph is plunging...although the only hope is leading the party.

Re: PTI's Tareen trounces PML-N's Baloch in NA-154 Lodhran by-poll

Sir jee aap key baat sahi,

But southern Punjab was strong hold of ppp and personalities, and not for PMLN, pmln lost it in 2013, shall be losing it again in 2018...

Like i said earlier, had this baloch guy had contested it as independent then he had more chance... But people there does not like or support PMLN...they are traditionally ppp supporters who wont be voting for PMLN even if they make roads of gold...

This is politics of South Punjab...

As for vote bank of PTI increased, you can balance the equation by diminishing vote bank of PPP as Shah jee rightly pointed out.

PPP had lots of ground to cover, they are also loosing ground in Sindh...Zardari had to go..otherwise PPP shall be burried.. Which will be natioanal loss...

Re: PTI's Tareen trounces PML-N's Baloch in NA-154 Lodhran by-poll

You are over simplifying it. 2+2 is never 4 in politics especially in South Asian politics where ethnic, religious and bradaree loyalties swing votes like hell.

At times you actually lose votes by making alliances. Recent example of PTI + JI alliance in Karachi. I still believe those two parties would have fetched the same result (if not better) without alliance.

Re: PTI's Tareen trounces PML-N's Baloch in NA-154 Lodhran by-poll

and one most important point everyone is missing here...

voters of Lodhran NA154 are educated elite of Pakistan, not jahils as we have seen jahalat of people of Lahore and Karachi....

Re: PTI's Tareen trounces PML-N's Baloch in NA-154 Lodhran by-poll

plus finalllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllly, we had a fair and free election

finally...............

yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Re: PTI's Tareen trounces PML-N's Baloch in NA-154 Lodhran by-poll

PPP vote collapsed from 10k to 1 k in 2 years even if added on to PTIs numbers it would have lost. Main factor is bulk of new voters switched to PTI and even though half of PMLN votes joined Baloch he lost (despite support of Provincial and federal gov).
If I was in the PMLN, I'd be worried especially if a census is held.

Re: PTI’s Tareen trounces PML-N’s Baloch in NA-154 Lodhran by-poll

Why would anybody vote for PPP a long as Zardari is there? Even sindhi’s vote for others if they have any realistic options. It will take 10-20 years for before PPP comes back.

As for PML being worried, I highly doubt it. They will win the next election, Pti will win a few dozen seats and cry ‘rigging’ again.

NA-154 by-poll: PML-N leaders’ half-hearted support downs Baloch - Pakistan - DAWN.COM

MULTAN: PML-N’s Siddique Baloch’s `shocking’ defeat in the NA-154 by-election on Wednesday is mainly due to resentment within the party against the leadership for awarding ticket to a newcomer and ignoring the old leaders.

Re: PTI’s Tareen trounces PML-N’s Baloch in NA-154 Lodhran by-poll

Hey TRD! Looking at the voting trends in Punjab and census depending, I’d say they should be worried. PPP votebank in Punjab is evaporating and uniting behind PTI, that plus new voters gives them an advantage. They are let down by very, very poor grassroots organisation. Lots of candidates think just having a crowd puller means they win elections.

I for one am glad there is competition in Punjab, healthy for democracy. Regarding next election ..a. Week is a long time in politics.

Re: PTI's Tareen trounces PML-N's Baloch in NA-154 Lodhran by-poll

Hi Zakk. Agreed that a opposition is needed in any democracy.

Pti/Ik have not shown any political intelligence or good governance. The last election he fooled people with his 'Naya Pakistan' slogan - KP has shown this will not happen.

The people are not fooled by IK anymore, they have seen what he is really like - even last week he was threatening farmers.

That is why most people think PML will win again, and Pti will be frustrated again.

As for PPP, Zardari will have to disappear before it returns.

Re: PTI's Tareen trounces PML-N's Baloch in NA-154 Lodhran by-poll

You are right that almost all of PPP voter is in Pti now (in Punjab). As far as the politics of the province is concerned they don't like docile opposition. PPP playing the role of second fiddle to Pmln has not helped them. Opposition is always good for provinces and country, as if they are effective they'd force the government to work which is a win win situation for the people at large.
