PTI, Govt agree to form judicial commission with coordination

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday decided to form judicial commission with mutual coordination but the disagreement over extent of authority is intact as the contents of the negotiations surfaced, Dunya News reported.

According to the details, the content of negotiations between the government and PTI surfaced in which both the parties have agreed to form the judicial commission to probe the alleged election rigging through mutual coordination.
As per the dialogue, formation of the judicial commission is mandatory within seven days of signing the agreement.

It was also decided that the commission report will be made public within forty five days. If judicial commission proves the rigging, Prime Minister is to dissolve the assemblies, the agreement entailed.

According to the contents of the negotiations, PTI and the government will petition the Chief Justice to form a three-member judicial commission. It will be requested to form the bench with Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk as its head.
The negotiations committees also agreed on forming a Special Investigation Team comprising civil and military agencies to carry the investigative responsibilities.

Reportedly, both sides also agreed to replace Chairman National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), Secretary Election Commission and Director General (DG) Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Reportedly, the representatives of the army and Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) were also present during the meeting between the PTI and the government that took place at Convention Center.

Earlier, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif had agreed facilitate to broker an agreement between PTI and government but the army had retracted from the dialogue phase following Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s speech in the National Assembly.

PTI negotiation team member Jahangir Tareen said that the government had asked the army for mediation. He said that no agreement has taken place thus far over the definition of rigging.
