Psoriasis

My brother has been suffering from this. Anyone has got information how to control it? Esp during dry winter?

Re: Psoriasis

Is that the same as Rosacea? I dont know how to spell it. For mild forms the Dr gives this Metronondizanole cream / gel, works really well.

Anyhow, i have heard that E45 cream is very good, bcos u have to keep skin well moisturised. I would put E45 on and then cover it with vaseline.

Yes Mostar, I have information that will benifit your brother Insha Allah....

Dr Nicholas Perricone is a Harvard MD and a skin specialist...you can check it out from his website too...........

in his PBS lectures he states that cells of the skin which is the largest organ of the body are very similar to brain cells............so nutrition that helps the brain also is very beneficial for the skin......

You need to supplement your diet with:

Alpha Lipoic Acid
Acetyle L Carnitine
Natural Vitamin E
Natural Vitamin C

the above two compounds are made in our bodies like in the Liver and Kidneys....but are reduce with age hence we need to supplement.

ALA transports both water soluble vitamin C and Oil soluble vitamin E to the cells....these two vitamins are imortant for tissue reconstruction.....creams and topical oils etc are temporary fixes......

what the skin needs is nutrition from within our bodies...

and in natural form ALA is found highest in BLUEBERRIES and then in SPINACH!

Good Luck!

Re: Psoriasis

This new medicine Enbrel is out.It does come with side effects as with any medicine. Depending on your brother's condition, go from there. If its really severe, then I would go with it.
Also have him tested for food allergies.
Avoiding certain foods helps a lot in flare ups.Tell him to keep a food diary..what he ate, his symptoms etc, that is one of the most useful things, time consuming but overall really helps figure his own body;s reaction. He should take that to his doctor too.
Good luck
Is he in Pakistan, as I can refer him to someone who got really symptom free using alternative medicine .

Many thanks for your kind response. Blueberries are not available in Pakistan. Is there any alternative for that.

Very nice of you. Yes we are in Karachi.

U R Welcome Mostar, here is some more info on natuaral sources for ALA and R-ALA:

**Food Sources **
R-LA occurs naturally in foods covalently bound to lysine in proteins (lipoyllysine). Although LA is found in a wide variety of foods from plant and animal sources, quantitative information on the LA or lipoyllysine content of food is limited and published databases are lacking. Animal tissues that are rich in lipoyllysine (~1-3 mcg/g dry wt) include kidney, heart and liver, while edible plants that are rich in lipoyllysine include spinach and broccoli (68)](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/larefs.html#ref68). Somewhat lower amounts of lipoyllysine (~0.5 mcg/g dry wt) have been measured in tomatoes, peas and Brussels sprouts.
**Supplements **
Unlike LA in foods, LA in supplements is free, meaning it is not bound to protein. Moreover, the amounts of LA available in dietary supplements (200-600 mg) are likely as much as 1000 times greater than the amounts that could be obtained in the diet. In Germany, LA is approved for the treatment of diabetic neuropathies and is available by prescription (39)](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/larefs.html#ref39). LA is available as a dietary supplement without a prescription in the US (69)](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/larefs.html#ref69). Most LA supplements contain a racemic (50/50) mixture of R-LA and S-LA (d,l-LA). Supplements that claim to contain only R-LA are usually more expensive, and information regarding their purity is not currently available (70)](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/larefs.html#ref70). Since taking LA with a meal decreases its bioavailability, it is generally recommended that LA be taken on an empty stomach (one hour before or two hours after eating).

this is per the Linus Pauling Website:

Re: Psoriasis

My wife is on remicade therapy for psoriasis, it is an IV , administered every 8 weeks . Her Psoriasis flared up all of a sudden , none of the available treatments were working and she was very miserable. Psoriasis can cause Psoriatic Arthritis which happened in my wife's case and she was unable to perform even daily activities. She is under treatment at a research clinic , the doctor is the best of the best for this kind of treatment. Alhumdulillah she is back to normal life her. The treatment is still going on and according to doctor she can be cured in one year , which is almost over , two years or she may have to be treated for her life. It is in her family though three of her brothers have mild Psoriasis it does not bother them a bit.
