PSA Annual Fall Gala of 2005 - November 11, 2005 - Toronto

The event everyone has been waiting for is finally here! S&A, the Pakistani Student Associations of U of T, York & Ryerson, and the South Asian Earthquake Relief Coalition, bring you the annual fall gala, KASAM.

This is an upscale formal dinner (meaning formal or traditional attire only), with a full course halal Pakistani cuisine catered by THE HOST, live concert, and an afterparty provided by Toronto’s best South Asian DJ, Pakistan’s own DJ KAMRAN. A live concert performance will be provided by Toronto’s top Pakistani band: GOONJH. The event will be held on FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 11, at Toronto’s new high-tech and luxurious GRAND BACCUS (www.grandbaccus.com).

Tickets are $35 for everyone; there are no early birds or a higher price for non-members. Strictly formal or traditional attire only. There is obviously NO ALCOHOL sold at this event.

All profits will be donated at the event to a representative of IDRF (www.idrf.ca), and Human Concern International (www.humanconcern.org); charities heavily active in Pakistan’s Northern Areas and Azad Kashmir.

More details, flyers and contact information to purchase tickets will be posted soon!

Note: The 8th annual PSA formal will likely take place in January as usual.

Tickets will go on sale Thursday October 27.

UTSC, UTSG, UTM, York and Ryerson will have on-campus ticket reps through PSA, and we'll have a couple more reps in 'sauga (aka Pakistan) because of the extra demand for tickets from there. If you live in Markham or Richmond Hill, we'll post contacts for your area soon.

Re: PSA Annual Fall Gala of 2005 - November 11, 2005 - Toronto

I dunno how good this will be... this is not the Original PSA dinner....but let's see...

Most probably I'll go...

Re: PSA Annual Fall Gala of 2005 - November 11, 2005 - Toronto

This dinner is organized by the same people who did the original PSA dinner earlier this year (UTM PSA and St. George PSA), and the setup is the same, same number of people expected, same band, better DJ (if you think Jiten was good with Pakistani music, wait until you hear Kamran). :)

Also, because of the complaints about long and messy lineups of food from the last formal, we're having dinner, tea/coffee and dessert served to each table individually, so it will be much more convenient for everyone. For $35 this is an amazing deal, and all profits are going to charity as well.

How will dancing help the earthquake victims?

Re: PSA Annual Fall Gala of 2005 - November 11, 2005 - Toronto

^ :hehe:

It will make them feel like they are wanted by all PK ppl around the world!

Re: PSA Annual Fall Gala of 2005 - November 11, 2005 - Toronto

This event obviously isn't for everyone. Every year PSA sells out, and every year it's Pakistanis who want an upscale atmosphere with halal food, no alcohol and want to dress up and socialize with their fellow Pakistanis, enjoy some Pakistani entertainment and a bhangra/Pakistani afterparty. It's an event for the average Pakistani living in Canada, which both very religious Pakistanis will oppose for having dancing, and very non-religious Pakistanis will oppose for not having alcohol. We can't please everyone, but the intention is to raise money for charity, and we're doing what PSA has successfully done every year to bring students out and help us make some sort of a difference. PSA is also having a more religious event on November 18 for those who'd prefer that.

Re: PSA Annual Fall Gala of 2005 - November 11, 2005 - Toronto

Through economics. If this function can generate sufficient revenue to cover and exceed costs, that excess cash can be given to a charity that aids earthquake victims, thus enabling the dancing to indirectly help the victims.

Alternatively, of course, one could just donate the entire $35 to a charity and skip the dancing part. But there are many people out there who’d find it easier to part with $35 if they could have fun whilst doing it, even though it means less of the money makes it through to victims. An event like this enables these people’s pockets to be prised open to enable at least some more money to reach the victims.

Couldn't have said it better myself.. thanks.

Re: PSA Annual Fall Gala of 2005 - November 11, 2005 - Toronto

Understandable, however, isn’t it ironic as to how people are saying this is an azaab of Allah etc etc, and then using those same ways that oppose him to do good deeds.

just a thought.

Hope you guys generate lots, and make sure it gets there somehow, inshallah.

Re: PSA Annual Fall Gala of 2005 - November 11, 2005 - Toronto

The response has been amazing so far, thanks to everyone who has purchased their ticket already. Also, if you plan on paying more than $35 for your ticket, please e-mail [email protected] with the amount you paid ($40, $50, etc..) and your ticket number, so we'll be able to keep track for charity and transparency purposes, thanks. :)

Speaking at the event, we will have Kashif Pirzada, a doctor who is coming back from Muzaffarabad, Kashmir after volunteering in a field hospital as a part of the earthquake relief effort. Also speaking will be the Consul-General of Pakistan in Toronto, Mr. Ghalib Iqbal.

Re: PSA Annual Fall Gala of 2005 - November 11, 2005 - Toronto

If anyone owns a business or knows a business family, feel free to tell them about this event, a couple more sponsers would be great!

Re: PSA Annual Fall Gala of 2005 - November 11, 2005 - Toronto

Please do NOT wait until the last day to purchase your tickets. Because this is a charity event, tickets can not be sold at the door and there is a limited amount of seating which cannot be increased, so this event WILL sell out quickly.
