Technology wise, PS3 has the edge. However, I personally prefer the game library on the XBox 360.

dude I own both the consoles, that is a joke,ps3 exclusives is 1:10,xbox hardly had anything behind gears/halo, even this is milked out,ps3 has 20-30 exclusive franchises,it would be stupid to buy xbox360 over ps3 in 2011, unless you only want to play call of duty mp,which can be done on ps3 for free

ps3 eyes closed,get a xbox later its cheap compare to ps3, there are couple of good games, and its always good to own both the consoles,hope xbox announce some new games in E3 apart from kinect

You can but you have to pay a subscription fee. PSN is down for now. Their servers got hacked and people’s personal and possibly credit card info was compromised. They’re supposed to have it back up by the end of the month though.

That’s why I said it’s a personal opinion. Even though PS3 might have all those exclusives, there’s nothing there that would get me to go out and buy the console just to play them (again, a personal opinion). Besides, I really liked the Halo franchise. In addition to that, the 360 has a better selection of RPGs and many of the multi-platform games are better on it as well. Halo and Gears are not the only exclusives on the 360. Here’s a quick (though incomplete) list of other exclusives:
Alan Wake
Fable 2
Fable 3
Blue Dragon
Lost Odyssey
Mass Effect
Infinite Undiscovery
Tales of Vesperia (PS3 in Japan has an enhanced version, but it’s only available there)
As far as online goes, yes, PS3 online is free, while XBL will cost you $60 per year. Another thing you’ll want to consider if you play online is what console are your friends playing online.

Kinect thing has balanced the scales quite a bit.

If u want to play online games with playstation and xbox then u have to pay round about 50 euro a year for xbox and for ps3 it’s free.
I have a xbox360 and i like it. I don’t have any knowledge about ps3. But if this xbox broke’s then i am definitely going to buy ps3.

Although which system’s exclusives you like are dependent on your taste, the PS3 exclusives are usually better in terms of graphics than any 360 exclusive and that’s the hardware advantage the PS3 has. I personally find the 360 exclusives to be very limited and the only one I really like is Mass Effect which is now on PS3 (except ME1 which is still an Xbox exclusive).
Other than that, I’ve heard good things about Xbox Live (the paid online service for Xbox) but I haven’t really experienced any problems with PSN (free online service) which would make me want to pay.
Plus the PS3 is a blu-ray player.
This is just my opinion but at this point in time, I would get a PS3 hands down unless you really like an Xbox exclusive because the PS3 exclusives are going to have the best graphics for the next couple of years and gameplay is dependent on your taste.
