Protein shakes/powders?

Ok, so after my workouts I need a good amount of protein right away. I usually use the sachets from the “biggest loser” and divide them into 2 servings of 20g each but it doesnt really do much.
I went to costco and bought the big ready to drink protein shakes and ran out yesterday, they tasted good once chilled and one serving was a good 30g -
I went into GNC for iso-pure and came out with their smallest size of protein-water which had 15g of protein in it but the taste is gross and I really dont think I’ll be drinking the rest anytime soon.

So any suggestions on some GOOD or so to say BETTER tasting protein powders or shakes?

Re: Protein shakes/powders?

Dont take these artificial proteins

When i Re-started working out 4-5 months back - my college also got me one GNC ( protein whey)

and before coming to gym - 1 glass and after return 1 glass - really does Boost your energy and you feel real growth .

But a dr. told me it has bad side effects.!!!

try to leave it and use natural protein sources .. Goood luck

Re: Protein shakes/powders?

Nowt wrong with taking any protien powders.

There's renowned companies worldwide who're known for offering quality products which have been tested, and tested again and again thoroughly by lots of different medical authorities.

Obviously you don't want to be taking them in excess and would be better off with whole foods but they're a good way to meet your required protien amount.

Can't go wrong with ON 100% Gold Standard Whey. Cost effective and has a good ingredient list!

Re: Protein shakes/powders?

I dont take 'em but namaan there's no side effects. It doesnt have to do with energy levels either, you take it for replenishing, repairing and building muscle!

Re: Protein shakes/powders?

Absolutely nothing wrong with having Protein Powders.

Personal recommendation would be Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein (as londonsfinest suggested) happens to be the best selling protein product in the world for the past 3-4 years.

Re: Protein shakes/powders?

Namaan is actually right there are side effects depending on what you use....

Creatien is a example of one problem causing drink...

Whey protien shakes are good in moderation....

but if you over do it your taking a big risk friends... try and avoid it if you can.

Besides your forefathers made do with much less protien anyway... dont go Arny will ya...

Trust me muscles are not everything... i'd rather stay skinny than overpump.

Re: Protein shakes/powders?

All you need after a workout is choco milk. Word

Re: Protein shakes/powders?

Creatine Monohydrate or Ethyl Easter for that matter are totally different supplements, you just cannot compare it with other supplements available such as Protein or Carbohydrates for example. Let alone the doubts surfacing about Creatine being haram or halal, whereas Protein supplements are proven to be absolutely Halal.

Re: Protein shakes/powders?

Yeah Im using Muscle milk these days :)

Re: Protein shakes/powders?

why do we need to drink the protein shakes after a workout? some of those ingredients are so fattening like yogurt and almonds looking at some of those shake recipes. it only promotes weight maintenance/loss and not muscles right?

i don't want to be muscular after drinking the whey protein shakes :P :(

Re: Protein shakes/powders?

With good balanced diet one does not need these shakes.

Maybe some vitamins, that's all.

Re: Protein shakes/powders?

How much a good protein shake cost and does it help in gaining weight too

Re: Protein shakes/powders?

^^hope one of the body building people here can help you with that question.

on topic, wow the whey protein shakes really do work!!! I had like 3 pesky pounds i needed to lose after thanksgiving break and I was pretty pessimistic but i drank a shake before working out and then i felt like i had extra energy during the workout, then breakfast and i lost that teensy bit i gained during the holidays. i’m going to keep using this technique just to maintain it at that weight. hurray! thanks all that gave there input about whey protein :hugz:

Re: Protein shakes/powders?

diff formulations for diff needs, meal replacement for weight loss, as supplement for those training, whether to bulk up or not.
prices vary quite heavily. I get mine from proteinfactory.com and 5 pounds run me about 40 bucks, there are cheaper and more expensive ones there and at GNC. You can pick em up musclemilk brand cheap at Costco or samsclub as well.

Re: Protein shakes/powders?

the only protein shake that i have ever bought after some gross-tasting protein powder is the Optimum Nutrition, aka. ON whey protein. Its not only best tasting but also has 25g of protein per scoop. Every time i go to GNC, i decide to try something else but fear the awful taste of different types of powder and always end up buying Optimum Nutrition powder, in different flavor. I personally like vanilla flavor. All the best :-)
