Protein Diet

Hey peeps,

So my husband has decided to go on a protein diet. He has decided to eliminate majorly bread, potatoes and rice. Which means, he is having meat, fish or chicken with salad, Fruit and veg is ok.

I just dont know what to give him. What kind of varities of food can i make? Be it desi or non desi?

He gets lunch at work buts its not halal so i have decided to prepare his protein side of lunch.
Im making him seekh kebab with salad tonight for dinner but apart from that im basically stuck what else to make him.

Any ideas?

Re: Protein Diet

chicken steak with stirfry veggies
vinegar chicken
chicken roast
mutton or beef cooked with black pepper served with green salad
mutton steak
fish steak
shami kebab with chutni or some sauce
veggie kebab with chutni or soem sauce
fruit chaat made either in orange juice or yougert for change of taste
channa chat (u can exclude potato)
lentle soups

well thats all i can think of so for.

I'm on a high-protein diet as well, I get fish/chicken/keema kabab's made and alternate them. I like a chicken or beef stir-fry with onions, carrots, capsicum's. And then put masala onto chicken breasts and grill them whenever u want. I boil franks and grill them. A high-protein diet can get VERY monotonous and boring :S

Thanks Gina and gshaheen.

If you have recipes, that would be great!

Spicy shrimp and mango salad.

shrimp
Mango
Romain, babyspinich, iceburg lettece( or green salad of ur own choice)
Oilve oil
salad dressing.
Wash the salad, cut mango in cubes and add it to the salad. Put 1 Tbs oil in a frying pan, add shrimp ,saute for few min, add a pinch of salt and red crushed peppers. turn off the heat and sqeez half a lime over it. Let it cool down for few mins. Add to the salad and pour some salad dressing on it.

gosht with black pepper

this is the easiest dish and very tasty(at least to me).
meat i kg
crushed black pepper
salt
2 cloves of garlic
half medium size onion (donot put more, less is better)
about 1 1/2 cup water

put all this in pressure cooker let it get cook so meat is tender, if there is still some water, cook it so all water dried up , cook it for about 5 more minutes and its done(i do put 1 tsp oil at this stage but its upto u , dont put more oil as it taste better with less oil), while serving sprinkle fresh coriander and server with green salad.

Vinegar Chicken

chicken 1 kg
sonaf, kalogi, methi dana 2 tbsp
vinegar 1 cup
lemon 2-3
green pepper 3-4
red pepper flack 1/2 tsp
oil 1 tsp

in the pan heat oil add sonaf, kalongi, methidana , when they start to crackel add chicken, green pepper, vineger, lemon juice, and pepper flacks , stir it and cove the pot. let it cook on slow flame , do stir it after 5-10 min. when chicken is tender an dall liquid dried up cook it for 5-10 min more and enjoy.
what i used to do is put all it together , did not bother to heat iol first and put those spices, u can do same too.

Vinegar Veggitable

capcisum
onion
green chilli(big ones)
carrot
sonaf, kalongi,methidana 1 tsp
potato(i know u dont want it )
salt
vinegar 3-4 tbsp

cut all these veggies in frech fries shape. in the pan add oil ,put sonaf, kalongi, methidana. now first add carrots and potato as these take more time to cook, stir fry them for a while, then add vinegar and cover the pot , when these veggies r 80% cooked (all liquid is gone too) then add rest of veggies and stir fry them for few min and serve. dont over cook, some crunchiness should be there.
and offcourse u can add any veggie u like.

Re: Protein Diet

my fat and lazy hubby also wants to go on protien diet, instead of doing excercise(impossible) or eating sensibly. so tell me does this really help in loosing weight , as he is mainly going for chaska not intrested in anything else and it will be more work for me too.

Re: Protein Diet

hahah @ gshaheen - my hubby thinks that just by eliminating potatoes, bread and rice or consuming less of those will help! I can understand that it will the digestive system but the prob with him is that 2-3hrs after dinner he would get hungry again and will have something to eat - mainly hot choc or cornflakes or crisps if available...im trying to get him out of this habit! But inshallah he will realise and see sense soon!

One can only hope.

haaaa :bummer:i t so hard to motivate him to do something. for his request of protien diet , i really wan to serve him daals, beans etc :CareBear::phati: hey common they all r protein:5:.

Re: Protein Diet

Sunset eyes..on a serious note...will how long will your hubby be following this diet for?I am sure you know that in the long run it is not good for one's body...Was just a bit concerned for you...x

Dildarani - he is just trying to avoid carbohydrates slowly. He does consume them from time to time but this is NOT a strict protein diet @ all...

Thank you for showing your concern.
