Prostate cancer and finger length

So, apparently there’s a significant link between finger length and developing prostate cancer. A man is more at risk of developing the disease if his ring finger on his right hand is longer than his index finger.

Very interesting…apparently it has something to do with the amount of testosterone the foetus is exposed to in the womb. The more testosterone exposure, the longer the ring finger length and an increased risk of developing prostate cancer.

Re: Prostate cancer and finger length

yes i saw this on tv
they said the length of your index finger is also linked to how clever you are,

Re: Prostate cancer and finger length

:hmmm:

I dn’t know if I should believe this .

Re: Prostate cancer and finger length

it depends on what the dude is up to with his finger, if you ask me..

Re: Prostate cancer and finger length

I think you or I misunderstood but this is the exact quote “Being exposed to less testosterone before birth results in a longer index finger and may protect against prostate cancer later in life” So longer index finger means decreased chance of prostate cancer.

Also, like Nami said I have a hard time believing this. I am going to try to look up the actual scientific journal article that published these findings if there is one.

Re: Prostate cancer and finger length

^ Yeah I said a longer ring finger compared to index finger leads to an increased risk of developing prostate cancer. Therefore, if you're index finger is longer than your ring finger then you have a decreased chance of developing the disease. Lol we're both right...we just said it in different ways.

There is some science behind it...high exposure to testosterone levels is one of the main driving forces behind developing prostate cancer and the ring finger increases in length if there is a higher exposure to testosterone in the womb. It kind of makes sense...

Re: Prostate cancer and finger length

opps yes we both did say the same thing…all the fingers are confusing me :bummer:

Reading the news article may make people think that it’s a cause and effect relationship when its not. The actual article that published the finding did not even find a significant increased risk if the index is shorter than ring finger. But there was a significant decreased risk if the index is longer than ring finger. This can been seen in the following chart.

What this also shows is there is a greater number of people whose index is shorter than ring finger, 57.2% and 51.6% of advanced and controls respectively have. Therefore, those with shorter index finger than ring finger should not automatically assume they have a greater chance of developing prostate cancer.

Now I am not saying testosterone levels have nothing to do with finger lenth and prostate cancer. I am sure there is some sort of an explaination but this study can not be used to say oh your index finger is short so you have an increased risk of prostate cancer.

I leave you all with this quote from the scietific journal article published in the British Journal of Cancer.
“Compared with index finger shorter than ring finger (low 2D : 4D), men with index finger longer than ring finger (2D : 4D) showed a negative association, suggesting a protective effect with a 33% risk reduction (odds ratio (OR) 0.67, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.57–0.80).”

NERDDDD alerttt

Re: Prostate cancer and finger length

LMAO

Re: Prostate cancer and finger length

What about the fingers of women?

They should not have ring fingers at all.

Re: Prostate cancer and finger length

IF the ring finger on a woman is longer than the index finger then the chances of her being homosexual are very high. The reasoning is the same; exposure to higher than normal levels of testosterone during development somehow alters the brain chemistry so their preference for sexual partners is that of a male.

Re: Prostate cancer and finger length

I was making a funny comment on lack of prostate cancer in women... :D

Guess where was the study done for finger length and homosexuality in women....................?

San Francisco!
