It seems that the area always remained under outside invasions (atleast for 2nd Millennium)?
What were the periods when India (sub-continent) prospered which finally attracted greedy invaders?

I think it was aways prosperous, thats why it invited invaders. During that day properity was to be self sufficient in producing food products. It used to be a great center of learning as well.

Why India's education system failed to protect it from invaders? Invaders who robbed its prosperity and self sufficiency.

^ I think there were a few reasons for that. First it seems that our forefathers were not united, they some how didnt raise armies, with the result the areas were ransacked over and over. Maybe so many invasions also contributed in destabilizing the area and didnt give the people enough time to improve their defenses.

Climate and lifestyles may also played a part in making people lazy prone to invasions. Even invaders like Mughals didn't go outside India once settled here
