That is very different from family to family. Some of them say Yes or No instantly, but others take several weeks or even months to make a decision. If there have been any previous marriages in that family, like older sisters of the girl your proposed, the amount of time it took them then, would be a good indicator.

could take up to a month for the first reply.....depending on how seriously they are considering the rishta.
they will likely be doing their homework and that can take a few weeks.

If there is some jasoos type (Chinese 007) relative in girl's close family, it could be months....

Sometimes silence can be an answer too, it means "no" but if you have a mediating party that introduced you guys they probably have a clearer idea about what is happening...

It can take up to a month, depending on how deep they are investigating.
