Islam was revealed to Prophet Mohd.- pbuh when he was forty. What religion he was following before that ?

sorry, "Islam" wasn't revealed to Prophet Mohammed PBUH, Quran was revealed to him. Islam carries the same message that was passed onto previous nations i.e. One God, Day of Judgement etc though they were modified by their followers after their departure.

i read some stuff about all prophets being of a single lineage… to ibraheem ..to adam…but then doesnt islam also say that ALL people are from adam and eve?
also i read up a long time ago that none of the prophets ever worshipped idols…
some controversy about muhammad’s parents not being idol worshippers???and also that his uncle that raised him also wasnt an idol worshipper…

Allah gave them the characters of not wanting to worship any idols, they naturally found that disturbing and unlogical.
Ibrahim (as) is also from Adam (as) and Hawa (as) of course. They had many children of course who in turn had their kids and so on. What they mean is just that the prophets lineage was just from Ibrahim (as) and not from anybody else.
I think most people at that time were idol worshippers, but Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) wasn't. He naturally hated that practise. He (pbuh) didn't like the bad habits of the other Arabs. That's one of teh reasons he (pbuh) would go outside of Mecca to meditate. He enjoyed the nature and thought about the universe.
