Prophet Mohammad's sayings

put up some of his wise sayings

Prophet Muhammad - “The most excellent Jihad is that for the conquest of self.”

Re: Prophet Mohammad's sayings

Prophet Muhammad - “This world is a prison for the Faithful, but a Paradise for unbelievers.” Prophet Muhammad - “The love of the world is the root of all evil.”

can someone explain these two though, i don't want to misinterpret them. what did the prophet mean or do we interpret them in our own way?

Re: Prophet Mohammad's sayings

Jihad can be an inner struggle an outer struggle or both.

Being merciful to the enemy:

This is done by giving them a chance to accept an offer of brotherhood, if not then they are given the chance to live under protection, if not then to be given the chance to strike first, if compromised then for them to be given the chance to run/save themselves.

The inner struggle during war is to take a life when necessary despite being taught and tuned towards peace and loving others:

This is a condition of the heart. We are taught by Islam through its beauty to be merciful and forgiving and hence we should find it naturally hard to deceive and hurt people. In war deception and physical defence to the extent of taking a life is necessary. The inner jihad is to do what is right in this circumstance. Bloodshed is never considered a good thing even when the person whose blood is shed deserves it. The inhibition we have for violence needs to be overcome in order to protect ourselves, lands and Deen from oppression.

Prison for faithful paradise for unbelievers is that we follow rules the disbelivers don't. War again can be used as a good example. It is forbidden for us to enter in to homes hurting women and children, to the disbelievers if a house is destroyed it is consdiered collateral damage, this is considered a catastrophe to the Muslim if he did the same.

Love of this world is the root of all evil ... let's use war again as a suitable basis to explain this. Do we fight for wealth, resources, booty? No, we don't do campaigns for worldly wealth this is a rule of engagement in war. The word for war in Arabic is "harb" - jihad is a condition that is adopted in every situation of struggle towards good. Struggling against ourselves is to overcome our inertia or sense of worth or self-preservation instincts teaching ourselves that we need to be better. Struggling otherwise is when this thought comes easy but actually doing something about it is hard.

If we fall in love with this world it means we can be bought and sold. It means that if we stand in the face of evil then evil may be able to get us on its side by tempting us with power and wealth or by threatening us with fire and finance. It will surely be an evil world if we let evil tempt us and bring us on its side.

Re: Prophet Mohammad's sayings

^is this your own interpretation of those two quotes or is it what is most commonly accepted as the interpretation?

Re: Prophet Mohammad's sayings

It's a nice saying but it's not by Prophet Muhammad(peace and blessings be upon him). :)

Back to Index 1 Back to Index 2 World This world is a prison for the Faithful, but a Paradise for unbelievers. End Show The Prophet Muhammad (Peace of Allah be upon Him) Said: Index 2 The love of the world is the root of all evil. The world is sweet in the heart, and green to the eye; and verily God has brought you, after those that went before you: then look to your actions, and abstain from the world and its wickedness. Be in the world like a traveler, or like a passer on, and reckon yourself as of the dead. Cursed is this world and cursed is all that is in this world, except the remembrance of God and that which aids thereto.

hareem01 is correct one of these quotes is considered a "weak" narration, some even class one of them as fabricated. The words are my own, but the explanation is based on concrete beliefs as per consensus.

These three statements are so well known that we don't need to interpret them they are clear as crystal to us. What I did was provide you an angle by linking them with one another. I gave you more than you bargained for.

For a simpler explanation:

Greater jihad is on self but this does not rule out other forms of it, other forms must be done without letting go of the jihad on the self.
Prison for faithful because like any prison we follow rules and we do not strive to gain wealth by compromising our values, for those who disbelieve they will alter their beliefs in order to gain from this world. Those who disbelieve here means those who are not God-Fearing not those people who are not Muslim. The love for the dunya is not love for this world. We must love this world by protecting it and we must love this life by preserving it, but the dunya is the materialistic aspect of this world and is a delusion and chasing it will make us desire it more and we will never be satisfied with it and enough will never be enough. Greed and other cardinal sins will develop and hence it is sound that sin is rooted in the desire for wealth and power.

Re: Prophet Mohammad’s sayings

^^well this site has it too and it’s an islamic one

[8] The Prophet (salAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “The root of all sins is love of
