I don’t know if its just me, but I think the print media and the television media has pretty much given up on Pakistani movies. The Reema movie was the only one I saw remotely promoted, and that was on GEO. Even so, I didn’t see much beyond an interview or two with Reema (including an article in Jang who owns GEO), and some trailors every now and then.
Pehla Pehla Pyar - I have read ZERO articles on it from reputable publications and definitely no coverage on the telly channels in North America ( I don’t count Prime, since I don’t think its got much viewership in the first place).
And I had no idea that Ajab Gul had come out with his new movie. No mention of it anywhere.
Apparently, the Pushto film industry improved this year, since they’re trying to make better quality movies. It did better than the Urdu film industry. Also no coverage of it, except on this one film buff’s website. So I don’t even know how true that is.
I mean, I guess people have given up entirely on the idea of a decent Pakistani film industry.
PCG, I dunno what your Reema Khan did, but somehow she was all over Geo [yes, the one in Pakistan not the GEO you get here], Jung, the News etc prior to the release of her film. Wink, wink, all these channels AND papers flowered the film wiith beautiful reviews and comments, there were Reema interviews, chat transcripts and everything she could desire to pump her film up. Geo even went to the extent of setting a separate website for her film on THEIR OWN website . Interestingly, all this hysteria was limited to Jung group. They’re known to be hugely partisan anyway, taking sides on issues and politicians, now it’s films I guess. If I ever make a film, I’ll make sure to have a bombshell as a producer!
According to something Lucman was saying, the film-makers have a choice. Either they pick Geo to advertise with or ARY. I dunno what the deal is with that, but Lucman was saying he picked ARY while Reema picked GEO. So now, if GEO did a good job of advertising, why is that a bad thing? They did their job.
I don't know who dropped the ball with the PPP venture. Lucman or ARY.
There were many other films released in Pakistan but not abroad, and yet we've seen the publicity. Ajab Gul's first film had better publicity here, although it was never released here. Tere Pyar Mein - lots of Pakistani Americans knew about it. Chooriyan too. Yeh Dil Aap Ka Hua was never shown on American soil, but it was all over the dish and the internet.
The publicity we saw here happened most likely BEFORE that. I never heard of any run in California, unless it was some uni PSA showing it, which I did hear happened with some university PSA's.
