Promoting Muslim events in local community specially schools

Idea taken from Nik’s V-Day thread.

How many of you have ever took part actively in organizing an even to promote Mulim events in local schools? We have problem with every other kind of day and event at school (read Haram day and Haram event) but how many of us counter that with positive initiative?

Last eid, an Arab family in our local community came up with the excellent idea of promoting EID/Ramadan with a thankyou lunch for school staff and eidi-goodie-bags for around 450 students of the school. That was very thought full of them and mark on the staff specially and overall in local community was EXCELLENT. All it took was effort from 4-5 families and contribution of around 800$ from local Muslim community who have kids going to this school. We did not have to run any fund-raising campaign for this. All the funds were raised by word of mouth.

My kids told me about a week after that many of the Non-Muslim kids brought THANK YOU cards and small appreciation arts from home depicting the Eid (and Ramdan) celebrations. I observed that my kids were actually feeling proud for being Muslims.

I thought I should share…

That's what I was saying .... don't we have a role as Muslims to promote and share our festivities with our neighbours and community?

Re: Promoting Muslim events in local community specially schools

My daughter has done an Eid presentation each year since KG and every year her class & teacher gets Eid goodies (mithayee, cake, cup cakes etc.) The presentation includes a poster explaining the event with pictures etc. and kids ask some interesting questions in the end.

I like the idea of a Eid Lunchon.

I usually go read a Eid related story book in my daughter's class. They do Eid related crafts. They made moroccan lanterns last year.

But a luncheon for the whole school sounds great. Maybe even talk to the food director for the school to have a Eid inspired lunch menu on the day.
