Professional vs personal life

Do u think Its fair to judge someone at work based on their personal life, if its made aware? I dont want to bring in celebs/politicians…but regular ppl like us.

To illustrate my point-at most of my jobs I had always befriended my coworkers and talked way more about myself than I should have–so learning from that mistake I decided to Not do that at my next job. I remained friendly but didnt get close to anyone. now at that time I was going through some personal issues outside of work… work had its own challenges but I’m glad I kept it separate because the last thing I would’ve wanted was for someone to accuse me of not doing my job well because of my personal life. I dunno, somehow I can handle mistakes out of error but not for “personal” reasons,..if that makes sense.

Strike a balance, the level you share would depend on personality of team and company. When in doubt share minimal, volunteer very little but share general info if asked.

I tend to be open and in some cases it has bit me, so now I base it on individual and how close we are.
