What is the difference between the Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5250 and the Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7100? Is there a vast difference?
Also, 1GB of memory or 2 GB of memory? What is the difference?
The standard storage space is 80GB. Is the upgrade to 120GB worth it?
This for a laptop, primarily for entertainment uses (music, movies, internet, etc.)?
I’m looking into the Dell Inspiron 1520 … but I may get the upgraded one cause the standard one without the upgrades comes with the Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5250 with 1GB of memory and 80 GB of storage space. Should I upgrade it?
The price difference between the standard and upgrade is about $250.
What is the price difference between the Processors?
T7100 is a 1.8ghz with 800mhz FSB (Frontside bus speed0) whereas the T5250 1.5ghz with 667mhz FSB( frontside bus speed).
If you have T7300 as the third choice, I would get that (atleast you will get 2.0 ghz processor speed) along with 2 GB of memory and the 120 HD. One GB would be enough but why not 2 GB?
I am reading online and I have the option of getting the Dell Inspiron 1521, which has the AMD Turion (which will clock at 2.2Ghz) instead (and it will be way cheaper, only $150 more, which is a lot, but not $400 more like the Intel!!!).
Yay or nay?
Also, if I get the AMD processor, it will come with an ATI Radion Xpress 1270 HyperMemory video card. Will this suffice? I can't upgrade the video card unless I go for the Intel computer.
I don't play games so I don't need a mega expensive card for that purpose. It's just for photo editing and watching the occassional downloaded program on the computer.
Hmmm ...
The only thing now is that the Intel Inspiron comes with Microsoft fully loaded whereas the AMD Inspiron does not have Microsoft on it, only VISTA. The prices difference between the 2 is only $50 ... BUT, the Intel has a much slower processor at 1.8Ghz whereas the AMD is at 2.2Ghz. I already have an original Microsoft which I should be able to put onto the laptop, haina?
It means the Turion only comes with Microsoft works. This is what it says:
Microsoft Works 8. DOES NOT INCLUDE MS WORD, English
The Intel one has MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc. so that is the difference. I think I will just get the Turion.
Only thing now is, should I get the Turion that comes with the computer, which is 1.8Ghz or should I upgrade it for $150 to 2.2Ghz? Is the upgrade worth it?
mehnaz, for the applications/usage pattern you mentioned, it is highly unlikely that you would notice any difference in performance between any of the processors you mentioned.
personally, i would go for an even cheaper less power-hungry processor that would give me a light laptop with a battery life around 4-5 hrs, use the $$$ i save to buy atleast 2GB of RAM, maybe even some chocolate/beer to celebrate.
if you are paying more than $800 for a laptop for watching movies/surf teh net/music, you are throwing money away.

Queer, Mehnaz is a muslim, she will save money on chocolate/beer and use it for donation(zakat).
one recommendation Mehnaz aunty,... plz dont buy a dell laptop... i seriously do not recommend anyone to get a dell laptop.. they have gud prices but their computers r just full of trash. I work for Geek Squad and we get more dell computers then any other brand to get fixed. Hard drives are the biggest issue. Spend $50 more and get a toshiba or hp.
On laptop 667MHz FSB is more than enough and a 1.7 GHz processor will be just perfect. However 2GB RAM is a must if you are going to run movies/music and keep it for more than 2 years.
And I agree, Tosh and HP are good. HP is the toughest these days, very well bounced come back for HP in this arena.
