I also expect these Pakistani parents who have adopted US as their new home to boot the kids out at 18 and ask them to fend for themselves or pay rent if they are staying at home when such yipyap is heard, yeah make your choices, follow what you want, do what you want, but at your own dime and yes leave the keys to the bmw on the table when you leave. Too many spoilt mummy daddy yankistanis who are all american when it suits them and all pakistani when it suits them.
*PARENTS: * If you raise your children in America and they're born in America, expect them to be Americans -- NOT Paki's. And most of all, don't expect them to follow your religion (Islam). And if you're not happy with your children, then just go back to your country where you came from.
When we move to America we do it for the purposes of work , education, good life etc, not to become Americans or non-muslims. It is stupid to ask parents to let kids do whatever they want. Also do not forget, that no matter how much you try to act like an American, you will always be asked about where you are from?
If parents provide paki and Islamic upbringing to their kids, the kids hopefully will transform into good human beings with knowledge of their cultural and Islamic values no matter where they live. If a kid is open to Islamic upbringing, there is no reason why he/ she would resist Pakistani unbringing.
Parents expectations should be based on the way the kids had been raised by them.

I don't think a single Pakistani here on this forum or anywhere else would claim that the reason for their moving to the USA was to become an American. People move here because they do not like the educational, political, social etc system in Pakistan. If we were able to have a good life in Pakistan, then no one would consider leaving their family and friends behind just so they can become an American, Come on , LOL.

It's understood that people migrate to the US for various reasons (education, job, better standard of living, etc). However when those that moved....have their kids in the US......it's only natural that they will be a mixture of both cultures...because they will try to assimilate into the more dominant culture...while also embracing/practicing their own culture.

People move here to become American because they dont like the Pakistani system. Get with the program already.
You want the education, the clothes, the language, the food, the living, pay taxes, get residency and then citizenship and then bring your entire families over to the US.........
And then say you dont want to be American.
This is called "jis thaali mein khana...us hi mein chayd karna" and becoming so common its quite disturbing. Education is supposed to refine a man...not make him worse.

What do you mean by becoming "American?" I am a US citizen, I pay taxes, I get paid, I buy stuff, I vote, I have rights. I am an American even though I'm browin-ish! It's all part of the process but I still love my home country.

Shouldn't USA be your home country - this is where you have home :)
