Hey friends i have a problem here i have windows xp and whenever i try to rename a file i get this message:What to do???

Same had happen to me... and unfortunately....... i had to reformat my computer.......
Try scanning ur computer ....... i don't know wut else is there to be done.??
rename the file name with the same extension .. like if its a bmp file
image.bmp rename it to ---> new_image.bmp .. I dont think its a virus.. sumtimes windows just hide the extensions.. n use picture icons instead.... :) .. but u can find out the extensions through properties of the file.. dont worry its no virus! :)
I think Aleezay is right.
You need to leave the extension alone. Like .bmp or .jpg or .doc or whatever.
This feature wasn’t there in Win 98 but is there in Office and XP.

Aleez is right to some extent. The issue is that you are changing a file name with some known extension (to the windows).
eg. If you have a file "myfile.txt". Your OS knows that this file would be used with notepad. Now if you change the name of this file to, lets say "anyfile.abc" windows will prompt you the same message as you are getting.
If you are sure that what you are doing is right (and you have some program that can read .abc files) then go ahead, ignore this message and rename the file as you like :)
