Problem for thrid umpire

The muddle over the tight security for Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf ’s visit to the Ferozeshah Kotla might be felt in the middle too, quite literally.
As long as Musharraf, along with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi — all with Z-plus security — are at the ground to witness the final One-day International at the DDCA premises on Sunday here, all electronic devises will cease to function as jammers will be in operation all around the ground.
This routine security practice has, however, created a new headache for the telecasters: even the walkie-talkie handsets given to the two on-field and one third umpire would also be choked, making it impossible for them to communicate with each other.
“The security agency personnel are trying to sort this problem out,” admitted a senior security officer, adding: “As per the situation right now, no electronic devises will work till our jammers are on outside the ground.”
The security agencies have also cautioned cricket enthusiasts from bringing their mobile phones into the stadium.
“No outside eatables, water bottles and mobile phones would be allowed inside the stadium,” declared a police officer stationed at Kotla. It would be interesting to see how these three decision makers cope with the situation if a solution is not found in the next two days. Maybe, they will resort to sign language!
