I have tried many different disks (formatted and unformatted ones) but I get the messages (it doesn’t come instantly, it takes a while as if its really attempting to open and then the message pops up)
**
“Please insert a disk into drive A” - **when I open the disk from My Computer etc. Get this one the most.
**
“The selected disk drive is not in use. Check to make sure a disk is inserted” - **when I open the disk using Word (if the disk has all Word files)
If it was working fine and this just started happening then
Either you floppy drive gone dirty [Dry blowing air into it ... there are special disks to clean them too but not worth it. Better buy another one, they are cheap <$20CDN here ]
or its gone bad
to be sure its actual hardware problem not software (meaning not windows etc):
- Take a BOOTABLE disk , and boot from that
- If computer cannot read it, then its the drive
- IF computer can read it then its windows or some other program messing with it.
I did what Najim said. Disconnect and reconnect cables between the MB and the A drive.
It's better than before, since when I put in the disk, it shows how much disk space has been taken up but I still can't look at the contents. The messages I get now are...
**A:\ is not accessible. The system cannot read from the specified device. -
**when I open from My Computer
The folder 'A:*.' isn't accessible. The folder maybe located in a unavaliable location, protected with a password, or the file name contains a/ or . *-
**when I open from Microsoft Word (the disk has Word files)
Windows cannot format this disk because an error occurred while trying to format the file allocation table area. This disk is damaged and may need to be replaced. **-
**when I try to open format this brand new disk.
I have tried many other disks, new, old, formatted, unformatted - I can only see how much space the disk has and no more than that.
So does it mean it's my A drive that's need to be replaced?
Well I did see this suggestion in the posts above. Are u PrinceMS or Najim?
Bhai where do you get all these assumptions.
Remember the word ASS-U-ME.
We haven’t been using the A drive for a long time. There was one old disk we wanted to open. But A drive wouldn’t respond. I had a box of new floppies which I didn’t open until now to check out if it’s my hardware problem. Thus this thread.
The A drive I got is NOT new, it is second hand given to me by someone who kept it knowing one day it would be useful for someone.
I am aware of these USB drives. I have 2 USB drives (MP3 players)
