Speaking to the media in Lahore, Shahbaz called for the country to focus on trade rather than aid.
The chief minister said that foreign aid has increased the country’s problems instead of helping solve them. He added that the issues the country will face after denying foreign aid will only be temporary and the new policies should focus on building trade instead.

Trade not Aid. That is the way forward. Politicians will sooner or later start reading sentiments of a common man, this status quo can not go on endlessly.

Im speaking in general. Lahori's have generally said good things of him as far as what he did for their city. However the statement I tend to agree with whole heartedly. Whether he actually believes it is another question.

These statements only for public consumption as they know public would rather give-up "aid", just trying to inflate their vote-bank. I am sure when he comes to power (God-forbid) things will remain same if not worse.

Anyone could have said that. Foreign donors don't provide aid to provincial governments directly, so his statement of "rejecting" any aid only makes sense to the likes of him.
He continues to get loans from federal government, the result is a 60 billion rupees unpaid loan on Punjab from federal Government - all gotten during his time.
