So I’m about to order it, my last rescue I guess, but I’ve heard mixed reviews about it. Has any of you tried it? Did it work? Does it overdry your skin? They have a pretty good deal on their website, 30$ for face wash, Toner, Moisturizer, deep cleaser, blemish treatment, mask, and some anti acne pills.
sounds like a good deal but does it work?

Re: Proactiv
Have you tried a prescription medecine for acne?
Re: Proactiv
I have heard of people who had a pretty bad reaction to it after they stopped using it..hmm...For that reason I'd suggest you to just see a dermatologist.
Re: Proactiv
I gave ProActiv a try almost 4 years ago. I applied the cream the first night and the next day I woke up with a red face that had swollen about 4x the normal size. Severe allergic reaction. 1 of my eyes was literally swollen shut! Had to go to the doctor, get a cortisone shot, and was on meds for a week. It was almost 2 weeks before my face went back to "normal".
5 years later....knowing what I know now...I think there are better options to treat acne (Retin A, AHA products etc). However, if you're adamant about trying ProActiv, PLEASE do a patch test first to make sure you don't end up with a reaction like mine.
Proactiv targets acne by literally drying it out. For some its great but for some its a whole new batch of issues.
You will have a lot of dry skin and it will stop working after a period of maybe six months.
Do you have a derm?
Re: Proactiv
I tried it many years ago, and it actually made my skin WAY worse. At the time, I only had acne on my forehead. When I used Proactiv, I broke out all over my face badly. However, at the same time, my older brother tried it, and it worked for him.
You have to take a look at the type of acne you have though. If you have zits (red pimples with yellow head), then something topical like Proactiv will probably work. But if you have pimples (solid red mass that is hard), then topical treatments wont work. You have to go to a dermatologist and get some prescribed. I took Tetracycline which worked (but it stops working after your body gets used to it), then I took Accutane (but I think that has been pulled from the market now). A Dermatologist will know best though.
Re: Proactiv
i tried it for a couple of years. it worked, but my skin wasnt that bad to begin with. Even the lady who was selling it to me said that i didnt really need it. but got it anyways, because i had this huge mother pimple on my face and wanted it to go away asap. so ended up using it for almost 2.5 years. so skin was looking pretty good and clear. Then decided that i wanted to go off it because i didnt want to use harsh chemicals on my face anymore. soon after i stopped using it, i started to break out like never before. I started using Lush products but still broke out. Started using other natural organic products from sephora, but still broke out. could be the fact that im on medication which can casue acne, but this is the worst acne i've ever had. But I'm still not going to go back to Proactive...maybe it's my skin getting used to the fact that im not using Proactive anymore, or maybe it is the meds. Not sure.
Re: Proactiv
I used proactiv about 6 years ago, after I had taken a course of accutane. The accutane really helped clear my skin and in my experience, it is the single best cure for acne. The proactiv however really helped keep pimples at bay for many years after that. The system kept my oily skin matte, evened out my skin and also really improved acne scars. For me it was actually less drying than all the other acne systems I had tried. It worked for a lot of my college friends too. After many years of good results though, I think my skin is now maturing and it feels too dehydrating to use the exfoliating cleanser twice a day.
I definitely think it is worth a try though. Also keep in mind that you have to follow the three step routine quite religiously to see results (and the results are never instant). If you are lazy about your skin routine, I would highly recommend accutane or other prescription meds.
