Re: Pro-CJ lawyers launch witchunt against dissenters
The CJ has a PPP MNA (Aitzaz Ahsan) as his chief counsel, but his supporters cannot tolerate lawyers allegedly aligned to other side.

Re: Pro-CJ lawyers launch witchunt against dissenters
At the outset I’ll say I am no supporter of BB or NS. However what u say reminds of that much abused churchill quote..something along the lines that the worst form of democracy is better than the best of dictatorships.

CJ Ch. Iftikhar did not mind the "lathi" in Musharraf's hand when the military coup was carried out. Our CJ in fact backed that military coup under the "Doctrine of necessity", and gave the General the right to amend the constitution singlehandedly - a first in the legal history of Pakistan also. That after himself ignoring the constitution after swearing an oath on the General's PCO, and getting himself promoted to the Supreme Court.
Now our CJ is silent as his supporters are practically lathi-charging hundreds of lawyers out of the bar associations across Pakistan, because they don't support him.
Re: Pro-CJ lawyers launch witchunt against dissenters
To date, has the Chief Justice condemnded the behaviour of his supporters for launching this witchunt against lawyers who do not support their position? As Chief Justice he should be neutral and condemn all such initimidation and violence by his supporters.
Re: Pro-CJ lawyers launch witchunt against dissenters
It is only right that the battle to save Pakistan’s soul is being waged by lawyers — thousands and thousands of them protesting the destruction of its judicial system by its self-appointed general president. It is right because a lawyer created Pakistan, almost single-handedly, and because the army’s role has always been to destroy the country. First, it marched out of the barracks under the command of Ayub Khan to destroy democracy; it is still destroying it, under Musharraf’s command. Its claim always has been and still is that Pakistan is safe only under army command — the same army that lost half of the country when it faced its enemies.
What army rule has gained for Pakistan can be seen from a comparison with India, which never had its democracy “saved” by the army. It is, by universal consensus, moving into the big league while every American passing through Islamabad is still kicking us around.
India is strong because it has, ever since its birth, preserved its constitutional institutions while we sat by and did nothing when ours were destroyed.
Musharraf has no mandate from the people of Pakistan to dismiss even a civilian chaprasi, leave alone the country’s chief justice. We should not stand by now as if it does not concern us. We must be out on the road, before the Parliament building, the Supreme Court and all other places speaking up. Musharraf was appointed to guard the nation’s doors — not to occupy the master bedroom.
Re: Pro-CJ lawyers launch witchunt against dissenters
On to a current and most serious matter. Our men of law and letters are for once united in that they all want law and order and justice to prevail. But should they demean Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, and all the good he has done and stood for, by parading him around the country like a political ‘mascot’? Should he be stood up to face politically motivated crowds? Should he not be allowed to be at peace while he faces the presidential reference? Our legal fraternity is mistaken if it thinks that its parades and strikes and ‘token hunger strikes’ (whatever nonsense they may be) will make one iota of difference to Acting Chief Justice Baghwandas’s sense of duty, his adherence to the law, or to his conscience.
Re: Pro-CJ lawyers launch witchunt against dissenters
merc
democraruc govts in India made policies that put the couuntry on the path that it is.
In our case our civilian govts did not do so. hell, it took a male military leader to change hudood ordinance, and not the female, elected, 'daughter of the east' to do that.
I do not want military to run the country, and at the same time I do not want to see the same corrupt faces like Bb and Nawaz as leaders.
I need better options to want a change, status quo is not perfect, but its much much better than anything larry moe and curly delivered.
Re: Pro-CJ lawyers launch witchunt against dissenters
The witchhunt continues, and the CJ has not one word of condemnation to date.

Re: Pro-CJ lawyers launch witchunt against dissenters
CJ supporters have adopted a attitude of “you are with us or against us”. Facists.

More intolerance by CJ-supporting lawyers.

Qayyum moves SC against Lahore and Multan bar presidents
Justice (r) Malik Muhammad Qayyum has filed a contempt petition before the Supreme Court of Pakistan against presidents of Multan and Lahore bar associations for threatening to suspend his membership. According to a press release, Malik Qayyum submitted that the Multan bar president Akram Bhatti had declared that his (Qayyum’s) name would be included in a list of traitors for representing the government against the CJP. He said that the Lahore bar president Sayyed Muhammad Shah had publicly announced that his (Qayyum’s) membership would be cancelled, which was illegal, unconstitutional and undemocratic. Malik Qayyum asked the court that both the presidents should be directed to apologise from him and refrain from any such acts.
