Poor jounalists get abused by both sides. I hope Ch. Iftikhar’s counsel come out condemn this sort of brutality by their supporters.
Karachi lawyers rally thrash journalists
The lawyers here losing temper for reasons yet unknown attacked journalists, beat them up, broken their camera, tore their clothes and drove them away bleeding from their protest rally, which they had staged against the presidential reference and making the Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry non-function. The violent lawyers told that they do not want the media coverage of their protest rally, while the lawyers were seen divided on the issue of thrashing journalists, which ensued a brawl amongst them also. Following the violence against journalists, some of the lawyers dissociating themselves from the rally were seen going back.
Re: Pro-CJ Karachi lawyers rally thrash journalists
so how many political party workers were there impersonating lawyers? would be kinda kewl to go to other rallies and start seeing who all showed up in a black coat..
Re: Pro-CJ Karachi lawyers rally thrash journalists
^ Didn't you know they are afraid that the president would now turn his attention to their corruption and they will be in trouble. You must have read in this forum before how many resigned to avoid the accountability at the hands of the president. Now where is the GS spin doctor?. :D
Re: Pro-CJ Karachi lawyers rally thrash journalists
wait wait, I thought they were in the tiny mnority of judges who thought that judiciary was impacted enough that they resigned, and the rest did not cuz they did not care too much.
sir ji, the spin doctors were showing how judges had resigned in protest because they were so disgusted. I had merely asked them about the total count of judges in Pak versus how many had resigned, and since then the argument changed too ;)
PS: speaking of corruption of judges now your by CJ ifti and his lawyers dont want some CJs to review his case, what gives janab :) look at silly billy's thread on this topic

Using that argument in the US ..the attorney general and other law enforcement officers who resigned only reprsented the minority and the rest supported Nixon throughout the Watergate scandal..which we all know is not the case :D
I've heard several stories of attempts by the government to cause a split between journalists and lawyers, especially after the whole storming of Geo.
Re: Pro-CJ Karachi lawyers rally thrash journalists
zakk, then the people who started jumping up and down when a handful of people resigned needed to keep that in context too. if they can try to put a spin on it, I can easily put a counter spin on it, and then they cant digest it. such is life.
and for every consoracy theory of govt trying to cause a rift among lawyers, or between lawyers and journalists, there are others that the lawyers and journalists are puppets of political parties. dont take my word for it, withint this forum u will find ppl calling geo an MQM mouthpiece for example :)

I agree people can spin stories anyway they want: however my example is still valid..you can't go (well with any credibility at least) in an informed debate on governments abuse of power and legal issues like Watergate and argue that the lack of everyone resigning; somehow means the rest agrees with the government.
Secondly, to your conspiracy theory comment, it has always been standard military (and civil) dictators practice to disrupt opposition rallies by sending in disruptive elements. There is no theory regarding that, it is in fact quite plausible and has happened quite often in the past.
Re: Pro-CJ Karachi lawyers rally thrash journalists
wannabe doctors who can't make it become dentists
wannabe politicians who don't have guts become lawyers
wannabe writers who can't make it become journalists
Re: Pro-CJ Karachi lawyers rally thrash journalists
And you disagree with this? Watch GEO for a week, and you will find that hard to dispute
so which party dpes ARY support and Aaj and others?
if geo is mqm mouthpiece and mqm is in govt then why would govt attack geo. unless then we say that the attack was carried out on orders of others :)

just like political parties instigate violence and protests, so its plausible that the lawyer demonstrations were planned by political bhagoray? :)

The rallies coming out from the Sindh High Court and the City Court reached M.A. Jinnah Road, when some persons in black coat thrashed a camera man of a private television and broke his camera, which the journalists strongly protested and boycotted the coverage of the lawyers’ rally. Later, some persons from among the rally reaching near Quaid’s mausoleum once again attacked the journalists with sticks and injured several of them. The lawyers held a meeting at the Quaid’s mausoleum and thereon dispersed peacefully, while the journalists staging a sit-in for some time on the M.A. Jinnah Road resenting the lawyers’ perpetration of violence on them and the police and administration remaining silent spectators, also dispersed peacefully.
