At the recently held Toronto International Festival, when Priyanka Chopra walked the red carpet at the premiere of her movie What’s Your Rashee, her ghastly dress was not the only thing noticed back home. Her fake American-Canadian accent was noticed by many, even by OTT Indian news channels.

Faking an accent means that you are ashamed of your real accent, i.e. ashamed of who you really are. So yeah, it is actually a big deal. Could care less in the end though.

There are accent reduction classes, and many expat execs take them as well
the results are gradual.
I see no harm, not sure why people have an issue.

i guess the media is making a big deal out of it because she was at the film festival as a bollywood ambassador, representing India and it would have been nice for her to act like herself, a true blue desi girl, instead of putting on an accent.
i think she speaks very well as it is, very eloquent, vocabulary and articulation is much more important than accents, there should be no shame in desi accents.

its a big deal for those who wants to make a big deal out of it (for no reason)....changed accent doesnot make her a gori...she still luks desi...all in all i think the accent suits her...i like the stress on rrrr
