I have the same issue. I'm not sure that we've figured out how to fix it yet. It occurred when my inbox got full, I deleted some messages, but this random, unidentifiable new one appeared.

the forum admin should update counters in admin cp first of all.
and most importantly if more users get this problem, then try to disable the plugins/products in vb to see if it is that which is effecting,and also repair/optimize the database(s)/tables like fx
mysqlcheck -o --all-databases;mysqlcheck -c --all-databases --auto-repair ;mysqlcheck -c --all-databases --optimize
most importantly forum admin can try to run this query and see if it fixes ur issue
***UPDATE pm SET messageread='1' WHWERE userid='10135'
****(where X is ur ID which is 10135)
If more users have same problem, a simple SQL query can be written which can mass-fix the incorrect count of PM's. How ever you have to make sure first that it is not the plugins/products or currupted tables which are causing this conflict.

I think everyone will have the problem, there will always be "one" unread message. Try deleting your inbox and sent PM's. I think sab ko problem hai. SQl query run karni paray gi to fix it, if updating counters in admin cp wont resolve the issue.
Maybe its one of those plugins hacks causing it, which send an automatic PM to users when a thread is edited, moved, deleted etc etc. So first update counters, then disable hacks plugins, if problem still is there then there has to be done some work with the sql and the infected tables.

My posts have been edited/deleted/moved many times and my counter is perfect

OK good. Then the counter, SQL db is damaged and the SQL query can solve the problem :)

I had the problem few weeks ago but then cleared browse cache in firefox and it went away.
