Primers contain additional ingredients (like silicone) that foundation does not usually contain. They serve the following purpose:
- To give your makeup longevity, and stay put even during hot weather
- Prevents the skin from absorbing any pigment from the foundation (that's when foundation colour starts to change!)
- Absorbs any excess oil (if your primer contains salycilic acid)
- Creates a smooth and even base
All in all, i think primers are must on occasions, but personally, i wouldn't use them for everyday wear.
