primary school.place rejected

I applied for my kids primary school place. The place they have given her isn’t even.a school I applied for and is a 20 min walk. How will a 5 year old walk that far and it takes longer for children. She has ashtma and is already a scared vunreble.child.I dnt want to.send her to.a.school far.from me.as well as the school being huge, academy size , used.to be a secondary school, now is also a primary. It’s way too far and kids.can’t get on.buses themselves.

I need to appeal, but what are my.chances.? And what clever wording.can.I use. I’m.again in stress mode.

Thanksu

Re: primary school.place rejected

Well how about you take the bus with her, drop her and come back home or go to your work. Unfortunately, you can't always get what you want.

Sorry, I am not much help.

woman... i walk 20 mins everyday with my kids to drop em off (one way)..they walk too.... trust me.. a 4 yr old can walk that far.

if not... put em in a stroller.

or just wait for a place next yr. simple. homeschool until then

Re: primary school.place rejected

I also ended up getting placed much further away where we had to take the bus and then walk a good twenty minutes. This was when I was bookwormish four year old so physically it's possible.

But I'm assuming you won't be going with her because you are worried about her going on the bus alone. Can't you drop her till after the bus.

My parents didn't even appeal and I still ended up shifting three months later to a place closer to home so it's possible your appeal will work.

Re: primary school.place rejected

Wow, that's one thing I don't like about the UK. The public schools don't have buses. I guess you will have to pick/ drop her until then using public transport. Try appealing too and mention her asthma. I know someone in the US wanted a closer bus stop and mentioned her child's allergies ( she couldn't be walking outdoors for long) so they arranged for the bus stop to be nearer. You can mention her asthma to get the closer school the same way ( hopefully).

However, if God forbid it doesn't work out and if you end up working hours that don't match her hours, get someone who will pick/ drop her for a fee.

Re: primary school.place rejected

Go throught the appeal process and explain about the asthma and also he fact that you will be working so can't go that far.

But I wouldn't get my hopes up. A 20 min walk isn't really that far by car or bus, no matter if u were near or far from the school someone would have to leave her since she is only 4 so I don't think the distance thing will make much impact. Be it by car, bus or walking someone has to do it, no matter the distance. You have family there, I'm sure you will be able to get it sorted.

Meanwhile go throught the appeal, people move/ change their mind about schools so u still have a chance nd there's still time. And also contact the nearest school n ask them to contact you if a space becomes available. This often happens at the beginning of term. So be patient, don't stress.

Re: primary school.place rejected

Is it crazy of me to assume a 5 year old would be on a school bus or being dropped off?

Re: primary school.place rejected

What do u mean @ reha ?

Re: primary school.place rejected

I think Reha means that such a young child would be either going on a school bus (doesn't exist here) or being dropped to school by an adult via whatever means. Not getting to school alone.. even if it was only a 5 minute walk.

To be honest, I really don't understand why you/your parents wouldn't walk to school with her if no one can drop her in the car. 20 minutes really isn't a long walk and I don't think it will affect her asthma.

People adapt to circumstances nadz... it seems you always expect circumstances to change to suit you.

Re: primary school.place rejected

LOL I was just thinking the same!

primary school.place rejected

20 minutes isnt a big deal, i lived 2 mins away from primary but my friend she would walk with her mum from a different area which took 20 odd mins aswell, i used to walk to secondary school that took me 20 odd mins and im asthmatic. Its not a big deal.

Nadz you kinda have to expect that you wont get first choice being out of the country and sometimes you habe to compromise. You could probably make friends with other mums and if you start work if someone drives they may offer to help with the school run. My sister in law would pay her friend a fiver a week to cover petrol as she wouldnt be able to make it back in the afternoons so her friend who had a child at the same school would drop her boy off to my mother in laws which was on the way to their home

Stop fretting. Honestly.

Re: primary school.place rejected

I guess ur right.although I am furious at myself for mentioning being abroad. As itbdoesnt even matter where we are applying from! Why should it.

I.fret because there are 3 schools that are.closer and its odd that none r available

Re: primary school.place rejected

a 20 minute before and after school is a good thing. you are lucky.

Re: primary school.place rejected

People are being so mean. If Nadz can solve a problem and ask for advice she should. Allergies sometimes make asthma worse. And walking outdoors can increase exposure to pollen. They should have given her the closer school. When I looked for a home here in the US, I made sure I got a home where the school bus stop was as near to the house as possible. Obviously, that's not possible in the UK.

Already advised you above Nadz. Hope it works out. At least you are/ will be in the UK. Think of that. Other problems will be solved slowly too, IA.
