New Zealander Martin Henderson will be the male lead opposite Aishwarya Rai in a Bollywood version of Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” to be made by Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha.

Henderson has appeared in films like the hit The Ring and director John Woo’s Windtalkers as well as Australian TV soaps including Home and Away.

The Guardian newspaper reported that Chadha planned to turn the classic Jane Austen novel into a “white-hot Bollywood musical version”. She has apparently signed up leading Bollywood composer Anu Malik and plans some spectacular musical sequences for the film.

Chadha, who had a huge hit with last year’s Bend It Like Beckham, is hoping that Bride and Prejudice will benefit from the musical revival following Moulin Rouge and Oscar-winner Chicago. She has cast Henderson — who recently finished filming on Torque, a motorcycle action film — as Darcy, an American living in London who goes to India and meets Lalita, the character played by Aishwarya.
This is my favourite book .... Pride and Prejudice. I am absolutely petrified to learn that this all-time classic will be made into a Bollywood film. Aishwariya Rai soooooooooo does NOT fit the role of Eliza Bennet.
Mr. Darcy is my all-time favourite hero and yes, Colin Firth is the best Mr. Darcy ... no one will ever beat him .... that's why he played Mr. Darcy in Bridget Jones's Diary (based on P&P).
But in The Edge of Reason, Bridget meets Mr Darcy from P&P, but Colin Firth already plays Mark Darcy. So Mr Darcy is going to be played by someone else and it won't be the same.

I know, but he is still in the sequel. I don't know how they will shoot that scene. :D I still love him. Mr. Darcy's character totally turned me onto arrogant men. :D
The indians are sure experimenting with their industries. the novel was simply out of this world and i think indians are a good copy cat. if its not an oscar winning it would make upto national awards.
the hero got looks, :k: no doubt bout dat an ash appears to be fresh too.
