Bush Says Responsible Muslim Leaders Should Denounce Terrorism

WASHINGTON - President Bush said Monday that all responsible Muslim leaders should denounce violent extremism because terrorists follow an ideology that exploits Islam.

“Many Muslim scholars have already publicly condemned terrorism, often citing chapter 5, verse 32 of the Quran, which states that killing an innocent human being is like killing all of humanity, and saving the life of one person is like saving all of humanity,” Bush said as he hosted a dinner marking the end of the daily fast during Ramadan.

“I appreciate those of you here who have joined these scholars in rejecting violent extremists. And I believe the time has come for all responsible Islamic leaders to denounce an ideology that exploits Islam for political ends and defiles your noble faith,” he said.

Bush said those in the room share a conviction that the United States must be free of religious discrimination and that the world must be safer and more peaceful. He said he was grateful to Muslim nations that have helped in the war on terrorism.

“The killers who take the lives of innocent men, women and children are followers of a violent ideology very different from the religion of Islam,” he said. “These extremists distort the idea of jihad into a call for terrorist murder against anyone who does not share their radical vision, including Muslims from other traditions, who they regard as heretics. Their strategy will fail.”

Bush has hosted an iftar dinner annually for the last five years in the State Dining Room. Attendees included ambassadors from Islamic nations, administration officials and Muslim leaders in the Unites States.

The group interrupted Bush’s brief remarks once, when he said a Quran has been added to the White House library for the first time in history.

First lady Laura Bush hosted a separate iftar in the executive residence for Afghan women she met during a visit to their country in March.

The group was later told not to worry because President likes to keep a collection of books and articles. The collection includes CIA memo about 'Bin Laden determined to attack inside U.S", U.S deficit report and the Constitution of the United States.

The problem with holding such parties is "Damn if you do and damn if you dont"

If you conduct such a party there are people who criticise the way it was conducted and all that. If you dont conduct, then there will be people who say that the american govt is not secular...

The party was attended by the usual dictators supported by Bush.

The dictators can have as many iftars in white house they want, but that won't change muslim public opinion.

responsible muslim leaders? i have yet to see one but then every leader who knows how to suck up to bush and bow to his demands is a responsible leader like the saudis and egyptians. about scholers, the less uwrite the better. they don't represent a single percentage of muslim population anywhere in the world but are scholars because they say what bush wants them to say and stay quiet when american terrorists butcher innocent civilians in iraq and afghanistan. they are allowed to have balls only to condemn muslims who are already opressed by american installed governments.

Isnt that a problem with the muslim leaders themselves. Why is that the fastest growing religion in the world incapable of producing a single responsible leader.
It is time that the Islamists stopped blaming outsiders for this sorry state of affairs and looked within to understand why the system is not able to produce a single moderate responsible leader who can show the world that Islam is a beautiful religion.
